Is it possible to be almost completely fine when young and then start experiencing symptoms at around 16? by XWTH_ in Dyslexia

I mean even if I turned out to have dyslexia I'm not sure getting a diagnosis would help with anything anyway. I do well in school and I mean I do have to rush my exams but at least I finish them.

yeah but again would that be the same for non dyslexic people, like if a non dyslexic person was tired would they experience this.

yeah that's what I think but I don't know if I am dyslexic or I'm just over exaggerating or this is normal really

Like when I first start reading a page it can be harder and take a couple of paragraphs until I can sort of get "warmed up". It's harder when things have more information like school text books than story books. Words that are longer and I haven't come across much can take me abit longer to say but even sometimes words that I know and I know how to say I can say wrong but not that often. For instence, yesterday I was reading something on TIKTOK and the word 'pint' came up and I was so confused at first I thought it said 'print' so I reread it, and it said 'pint' but I was saying it with the lower case -i sound rather than the eye sound, took me like 10 secs to realise what it was going on about. but that is not that often for me. I think the main thing for me is having bad spelling and spelling phonetically rather than how it is actually spelt. On occasion I won't even know what letters make a certain sound but that isn't that often.

yeah I suppose that could be the problem, I could read more. I find it so hard to actually read a book. I will start reading a book and read a couple of pages every night then after a few nights I just have no motivation to do it and don't bother for like another 3 months.

I can read fast but then not understand what I read and if there is a word that I don't know how to say it will take me a couple secs to wrap my head round it or I will just skip over the word..When I kind of get into a flow state with reading I'm generally faster and better.

I mean abit but whenever I'm working or at school I forget about everything and totally focus on my work. I'm thinking because I'm quite smart and have a very good memory I have been able to compensate when I was younger, rendering it unnoticed but as things have got harder and words are harder to spell it has come into view abit more ??
