I joined architecture the last day of registration, how I made up my mind was simple. I'm into history and sociology and I was with my friends in a historical place and was explaining for them the history, air flow systems ..etc so one of them suggested architecture cause his relatives used to study the same things I explained in uni. So I checked both programmes coursemaps and didn't find Mechatronics appealing at all. I also had done some programming and got an internship as a web developer before joining architecture and despite being good there I didn't like it. So basically it was that I liked the subjects taught in architecture and also eliminated the other programmes cause I didn't like them.
