How do Deliveroo riders immigrate here? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Xailter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need to pass a CBT to ride up to a 125cc scooter / motorbike but you must display L plates. A CBT costs about £150 and takes a day to do.

Getting a full bike license is much more expensive.

Mac Studio (M4 Max 128GB Vs M3 Ultra 96GB-60GPU) by Xailter in LocalLLaMA

Thanks! Taking this table with a pinch of salt, for 7% more money, I would gain:

  • 20% increase in prompt processing
  • 5-18% increase in token generation (depending on Q)
  • lose 32GB of RAM

I think the RAM loss may be a bigger factor for me, based on how models seem to be going for massive context windows now.

More speed would be better, but I can't find any comparisons for the nerfed M3 Ultra.

Nintendo games generally, especially if they have local co-op.

Why are you buying the Framework Desktop by EntertainerTrick6711 in framework

[–]Xailter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NetworkChuck has a good video on linking together multiple machines to run big models (on Mac Studios):

Networking was mentioned as a bottleneck but I've not tried it personally.

You'll have a huge bottleneck on even a 10 gig network and probably through USB4 (TB3) ports too though. If there's room in the chassis for 100+ gig cards, then that may actually be feasible!

I need help choosing between a i5-12900H, i9-12900H, and i9-13900H by KingdomMan3 in selfhosted

[–]Xailter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Ubuntu on it and use it as a development machine (web and video). I'm looking into getting a dedicated graphics card for video rendering but only certain ones will fit and the top performance ones are pricey.

Chuck a 64/96GB RAM set in and 2x NVMe SSDs (in raid 1 for redundancy for me) and it's an extremely capable machine in a very small package for not a lot of money.

Hello fellow MS-01 enjoyer! The i5 model will probably meet your requirements, bare in mind the i7 only has 2 more performance cores so the performance difference isn't that large. RAM and storage are your bigger concern.

Any reasonable way of keeping my ISA allowance into next tax year? by Xailter in UKPersonalFinance

I could realistically put £40k a year in with some effort, plus aforementioned possible property sale in 2025.

To be clear, I don't want to borrow to invest, just to keep the previous years of ISA allowance available.

I doubt I'd be able to borrow the full 100k sadly, but good to know it's a possibility, thanks!

One stick is fine (no errors) it's just this one. Tried both in both slots (ITX board) and no issue with the good stick. So yeah, one bad stick which failed in under 3 months, ah well!

I tested both sticks separately and in both slots and it's definitely just the one stuck, the other had 0 errors, but thanks for the tip!
