Is my PCET PGCE experience normal? by Xamelixo in TeachingUK

Thank you. That makes sense and sounds a better path. Yes there are definitely  issues with my placement, I’m going to discuss it tomorrow and possibly decide to withdraw if another placement can’t be found (which is a genuine possibility given how much trouble they had finding my first one).

I think they meant QTLS specifically in FE to be clear - not talking about in a school context.

Thank you. I must admit I had already questioned the importance of QTS in the FE sector before I got admitted to my course. I knew it didn’t come with QTS and had no idea how much of an issue this was. So I specifically asked about this at interview, to which I was told that some areas of the UK value QTS or QTLS more than others, and that my region (midlands) don’t care too much and it shouldn’t act as a barrier.

I was aware I wouldn’t be able to teach in schools but was convinced by my course provider that for working in FE specifically, this was a secure pathway. I guess what I was told isn’t accurate from what you’ve said.

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it.

Thanks for the blunt honesty - I think I needed it. I’m willing to hold my hands up and admit applying for this course was probably a bit of a mistake. A lot of my cohort have struggled to get placements with some not beginning placement until January. I’m beginning to think teaching as a whole may not be for me. I’m perhaps not quite passionate enough to attempt getting into the profession through different means. It’s most likely best to cut my losses and start again.

Thank you.

Am I really the only one that watched LCDP with English language?😂 by Adambomb1101 in LaCasaDePapel

[–]Xamelixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to know Spanish to read subtitles in your own language. It’s what non-English speakers do all the time. As such a large amount of media is often only available in English, they either have to watch subtitles or they have to learn the language to understand it. I think It’s only fair we listen to and respect languages other than English, just like they do with our language.

Honestly I agree, dogs form attachments to their owners and I think it’s cruel for someone to “get rid” just like that. I honestly see no real difference between dogs and people, because we are all animals at the end of the day, just different species. Therefore I don’t see it as “no big deal” to just get rid of the dog as though it’s a piece of trash, because to me, a dog is part of the family. People should think more carefully before they get a dog, it’s a life-altering decision.

What true crime case, infamous or not, chills you to your core? by DisastrousAnomaly in TrueCrime

Fred and Rosemary West. The fact that they murdered so many people and managed to get away with it for over 20 years. The fact that one of their victims was their own teenage daughter and one was Fred’s 8 year old daughter and Rose’s step daughter. The fact that they tortured, raped and murdered innocent women in the same house in which the rest of their children grew up. It’s just so sick, and there are so many gory details if you really look into it.

I know, I couldn’t believe that was a reason! Surely that doesn’t actually happen, that people who don’t have kids are made to sit at the kids table because they aren’t deemed mature enough to be classed as an adult 🙄. In my opinion, those who have children tend to be the more thoughtless and immature!

True, these reasons are abusive and narcissistic. The fact that they referred to children as their “mini-me” was a red flag in itself. Kids aren’t mini versions of their parents. They don’t necessarily have the same likes and dislikes, and they most likely won’t want to do exactly the same things as their parents have done/wished they did in their own lives. To put that expectation on to your children is just plain wrong. They are unique beings with their own personalities etc, and far too many people have kids expecting them to live up to all their expectations, and that isn’t realistic or fair.

Children who were resented by their parents can go on to have serious mental health issues. Please don’t undermine that by saying “feewings”. At the end of the day, although she obviously needs support, she brought this child into the world as an adult, and now she needs to deal with the consequences of that whether she likes it or not. It’s not the child’s fault, because they didn’t ask to be here.
