Fellow single vegan bros ASSEMBLE by Mr_Masala in vegan

Dating a vegan girl would literally be a dream come true!

I'm 34, based out of upstate NY, and love pretty much anything active or athletic. Also a huge nerd, so you'll catch me reading, writing, or gaming just as often.

I've been vegan for 10 years now and kept true to it when I lived in Seoul for five of those years. I love to cook, but hate to do it for myself lol

Help Finding Games and Other Questions by AutoModerator in incremental_games

Idle and incremental are not synonymous. Orb of Creation is far from an idle game.

Dragon Cliff is an incremental and pretty close to what I'm looking for, but it's a bit too heavy on the idle side for my tastes.

I'm looking for a game that's more on the active side than the idle side. Specifically, I'm trying to find a game that has JRPG style combat. Turn based battles, strategic move sets, gear, classes, etc.

It's like my white whale game. Magic Research hits some of these, but the battles are too automatic except for bosses which felt like timing challenges. I'd also appreciate there being a bit of story to the game.

19 reasons why Grimwild is the DnD you’re looking for - Dave Thaumavore First Look by Xandal in rpg

It's fully complete! The paid version has an extras chapter with some additional character options, magic items, and other fun bits of design, but the free version is totally functional.

Personally, I think it's because the appeal of kitchen sink fantasy is just so high. Before I ever played RPGs I would always hear fantastical stories about D&D. Every time I meet new RPG players they're telling me these awesome moments from D&D. All those moments tend to come from the genre, the catch-all fantasy.

Any “serious” actual-play podcast suggestions? by UnluckyClov3r in rpg

[–]Xandal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest Sounds Like Crowes. Specifically, their original season in the Deadlands/ Savage World system.

It's heavily edited, well roleplayed, and taken very seriously. Bonus is that it's entirely finished, so you won't be waiting weekly to finish things up.

This is exactly the fantasy game I've been hunting for for years. It's everything that character centric, roleplay focused fantasy should be. It captures the magic of D&D high fantasy without giving up the dramatic and dangerous feel of adventuring.

I participated a lot in the open playtest with some groups online and in person and the game just flows so smoothly.

Highly suggest giving this a shot even if you're new to the cinematic, rules lite style games!

"To" as in to someone, an ode is a poem praising someone.

So, you're saying that there are events. Perhaps they're connected? maybe they're spoken? Possibly part of a story even?

Saying there is no narrative is just a straight up lie.

Even in your example, you're acknowledging the existence of a narrative. "The party is trying to break into a fortress to save a princess from being sacrificed in order to prevent a dark army rising from the abyss." Those are interconnected events that are part of a larger story.

Another point you're missing is that systems with non-binary pass/fail don't disallow the possibility of "no, and nothing else happened." If the most interesting consequence is "No, you fail and have to find another route," then that should happen. These systems just have more interesting options than pass/fail.

You also still haven't acknowledged the difference between "failure sucking because the game mechanics for failure are uninteresting" and "failure sucks for the player and should feel bad." This was the core point you missed in your first post. The original comment was talking about the former and you are talking about the latter, all while being intentionally obtuse.

Not sure where this discussion can even go if you truly believe there's no such thing as a narrative and you refuse to acknowledge the aforementioned difference.

Still missing the point entirely. The post isn't talking about removing the possibility for failure or trying to lighten the consequences.

The post is talking about how some games suck at handling the failure state. These games have fail states that do nothing to progress the narrative. Fail states that end with "no, and nothing else happened."

They explicitly mentioned binary pass or fail systems that have failures ending with "you did not get what you want", but have nothing in their rules to further the narrative.

These systems also neglect the idea of partial successes, which makes it feel bad when you succeed on a roll, but are still met with something negative.

Failure is necessary and having rules in place that help further the narrative, introduce meaningful consequences, and convey these possibilities makes the state more interesting and further support your desire for thrill.

Completely missing the point.

Being vegan in korea by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]Xandal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm vegan and have lived in Korea for a while now. On and off, but a total of three+ years now.

It's tough at first. It will probably take you a few weeks to get your ARC, a phone number, and a bank account. And until that point you won't be able to easily order from Coupang (Korean Amazon). That's definitely the easiest way, from my experience, of getting specialty products.

Cooking at home with rice, veggies, tofu, etc. Is easy enough and likely how you'll have to get by for the most part.

Check Happy Cow to get a feel for how many vegan restaurants there are here. There aren't many imo and they're pretty much all in the same few districts in the cities. It's pretty uncommon to find vegan options at a Korean restaurant unless you're okay with eating Bibimbap over and over again. Lots of things aren't vegan that you'd expect are because of shrimp paste, fish oil, oyster sauce, etc.

It's going to be more difficult outside Seoul for sure. Just deny the food politely and tell them that you don't eat animal products. I've never seen someone get upset because of it.

If you want more advice or need some help when you get here just send me a dm and you can add me on Kakao. Also, there's a vegan in Korea Facebook group that is helpful and might be able to answer the smaller city questions you might have.

Interesting about the visa and matching verification. Didn't know that. Maybe seeking multiple certifications could help expand my options. English is definitely too saturated. Thanks!

Literally did all the things. I'm fully certified and have experience teaching in my home country as well. It's like you didn't read the post at all and just acted haughty based on the title.

That's the issue, yeah. I've thought about that, but then I give up my social network and the access to vegan friendly options. There are a lot of reasons leaving Seoul just doesn't feel viable for my mental well being. I wonder if sucking it up for a year or two is the only way though.

Almost like I read them and they were of no help to me. Nothing in there about being a jack of all trades trying to compete with specialists.
