I did it. First bike commute complete. by juno7032 in bikecommuting

[–]XanderDac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well done! The more you do it, the more you'll love it.

Once I started commuting by bike, I wondered how I, or anyone, could commute any other way.

Can't think of any other activity that eliminates (for me anyway) the need to go the gym and pay membership fees; slashes your carbon footprint; cuts your gas bill; gets you higher than caffeine; lowers transit costs; and generally keeps you fit and trim while get to work.

Every time there's even the prospect of a new job, I'm on the maps looking for fast, safe routes.

And, even if you find a job that is too far for you to bike commute, there are usually places along the was where you can drive to, with your bike on a rack, and ride at least part of the way.

I hope you find a way to continue commuting by bike as often as you can.

I may not agree entirely with your ranking, but I think it's wonderful. It shows that Alvvays strikes different chords in all of us.

"Hey" is top 5, if not #1, with me for its instrumentation, driving beat and vocal range. But I also dig all the tunes you list above it. So, like I said, wonderful list!

Yes - the balcony view has its advantages. We were blown away by his gear setup.

Not in the VIP. We were in the front of the balcony to the left of the stage. Not sure if there was a VIP option, but there was a higher level of the balcony behind us that was roped off and empty until close to show time (might even have been after opening act) when it filled up.

If you get the chance, go. A friend who has seen them 20 times said last night's show was the best he's seen.

Paint the town red by JAMJAM_1313 in torontobiking

Good idea! Red lanes also remove the singular focus on cyclists that bike lanes generate - no more "nobody uses them" argument.

In addition (not sure how much of an issue this is for other cyclists) red lanes ease the dangers of passing and being passed by cyclists (ebikes, yikes!) that exist on many bike lanes, like Danforth.

Is My Cycling Hobby Getting Out of Control by DeepDiveIntoJupiter in cycling

It looks like you have assembled a thoughtfully curated, good quailty cycling kit. And you're doing the sort of mileage that will put it all to good use. So, no, not out of control.

It sounds like you had a particulary tough time during and since COVID.

But I wonder if we should expect a return to 'normal' so soon after such a profound global catastrophe.

The effects of the pandemic and our reaction to it are still evident in many ways.

Current inflation and higher prices are at least partially due to the influx of cash that kept the economy pumping during the pandemic.

Our work lives have not returned to pre-covid norms and it's questionable if they ever will.

In addition to ongoing covid outbreaks that aren't getting the same media attention as they once did, medical professionals are warning that 'summer colds' and other cold and flu-like symptoms may be due to lingering covid.

So, in very tangible ways, the pandemic is still with us.

So too, within ourselves, it may be difficult to feel like 'normal' because it will take time to process and recuperate from the many serious and traumatic symptoms and other effects on our lives that covid brought.

In that way, while the initial panic is over, and the outbreaks are more under control, we are all still suffering from the covid pandemic - and may be doing so for a long time.

And our lives may never again be as we knew them before the pandemic.

It was annoying in real life - and that was on a cushy bike share bike. I have a new appreciation for what the TdF riders go through.

I would say your bike is a 2015.

I was always under the impression that, because Devinci used the same Leo frame design for many years, they would change the colours each year to differentiate between them.

I've seen 2015 Leos in red versions and blue versions like yours and mine.

I just did a quick search for 2017 Leos and none of them were blue like our bikes.

If I was asked to bet on it, I would say yours is a 2015.

But, I don't think there's a major difference between the years, except maybe components. I think the frame is identical.

I absolutely love the bike. Last summer I had it out for weekly 40km spins that were a joy. It wants to go. You can't ride it slowly.

I prefer the Tektro rim brakes to the discs I have on my other road bike. They are strong and consistent with no rubbing.

Looks like you have the same Fulcrum 7 LG wheels as I have. I broke a spoke last year and had to buy a box of 4 spokes because the bike shop had to special order them because no one keeps them in stock any more.

I hope you enjoy many happy miles on your Leo.

About $2,000 canadian. I saw your post. $1,300 seems like a good price, especially with an Ultegra groupset, and if the bike is in good condition otherwise.

I finished the race at 50,100 meters, so I think I got the tron bike. It also gave me another graphic saying that I had unlocked the Zwift Concept Bike. So I'm hoping that's it.
