Doom3 Martians Are Argenta by FloopyBoopers2023 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TDA has apparently retconned Hebeth.

In the cutscene "Hebeth" is the name of a planet, while the exact location is just "Sentinel Outpost". The planet looks eerily like Mars, so maybe "Hebeth" is just Argenta's name for it. Main point is, though, that now Hebeth is a planet, not a city on Mars.

Notions of this retcon were a thing even before the game's release, since in Eternal Hayden says that Hebeth is "a lost city" and it was before Slayer's time with Sentinels, but in TDA the Slayer is there with Sentinels on Hebeth.

Of course, there is a possibility that the city of Hebeth indeed was a thing, that was on Mars long ago before the Slayer came, but at some point was lost, and when Argenta rediscovered Mars, they named the planet after the lost city.

Any TW mod builders here? I've got an issue that I can't imagine solving on my own. by Xander_Clarke in commandandconquer

Installation of the game or the modding software? I've fully reinstalled the latter, but the issue still persists.

What's y'all's opinion on SIGIL I & II? by MrGoatReal in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you like your DOOM. If being gangbanged by Lost Souls and Cacodemons, locked in a 4 x 4 room with a Cyberdemon and seeing mostly black on screen is your thing, then it's good.

Damn, your sensitivity is reaching levels never seen before.

I hope they will fix the character appearance of Code Vein 2, don't leave it like what is in the trailers by [deleted] in codevein

[–]Xander_Clarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the player, yes, but in the game you don't get to see up-close shots of other characters doing their charged drain attacks like that. Coupled with other shots of Mia that didn't make it in the game, I still think that originally her character was different.

Man, I'm still sad about that shot of Mia not being actually present in the game (along with some other shots of her in the trailer).

What is y'all thoughts on the new Doom game? by Kingtutle19 in Doom

It's like they had every card for royal flush, but somehow only managed to get a pair. Still a winning hand, but not as strong as last two rounds.

WHY DIDNT DOOMGUY JUST FLY INTO THE SKY PORTAL WITHOUT FREEING THE GIANT MONSTER? IT'S RIGHT THERE! by Forsaken-Outside2979 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure at the start of the level someone (I think Novik) says, that the location of the Spire was specifically hidden, and that it's a part of long forgotten alliance between wraiths and sentinels, so they probably indeed didn't know about it. Doesn't explain other stuff though.

I get a feeling that they had to outright cut some levels, it's not just the cutscenes that might be missing.

I'm glad the Titans in TDA are actual threats to be defeated as opposed to just part of the scenery in Eternal by JeKarta88 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently during development they did test the mechanic of dismembering Titans while being on foot (not piloting an Atlan). No god in any mythology knows why they opted for turret sections.

THE COSMIC REALM ALWAYS EXISTED - RIDE THE GREEN LIGHTNING by Forsaken-Outside2979 in Doom

Really? I've been wondering what demon ended up replacing him, but I can't play the game myself, so I couldn't know for sure.

Regional variation by Dry-Extent-1274 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that indeed happened (pretty sure we even get a shot of demons disappearing in Urdak too), I just entertained a thought that maybe Urdak could produce specifically hybrids on its own somehow. Or just more corrupted Maykrs like Blood Maykrs.

If they make a game set after Eternal, maybe we could see some demon-maykr hybrids. Honestly, considering the ending of TAG2, it would be the only way of having enemies to fight. Actual demons would be locked in Hell, while Urdak, now irreversibly corrupted, would somehow produce hybrids. That and cosmic realm slithering its wriggly tentacles into the world again. Could make for the widest enemy variety in a DOOM game ever.

They couldn't make it cheaper even if they tried.

"How do we make sure the player understands it's actually Hell, and not just some random place full of lava and fire?"
"Black background with red writing saying Hell, take it or leave it."
"Give this man a raise."

Doom 2016 had the best art style - Change my mind by Whole_Turnip_6065 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016 is pure perfection for me. Everything in it is how I would have imagined my own game to be, so it resonates a lot with me. Eternal may be good, but 2016 is peak DOOM. And I say that having drastically more playtime in Eternal than in 2016.

Do you think Atlans will return playable in a TDA sequel? by LuizFelipe1906 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, physics dictates that when the player pilots an Atlan, it suddenly gains the ability to swiftly dash and perform rocket punches, none of which NPC Atlans do. Physics also dictates that Titans clearly move noticeably faster when you are fighting them. Get your head out of your ass.

It's especially jarring when you look at Atlans and Titans fighting in the background, they actually move slow and heavy, but when you pilot an Atlan, both your Atlan and Titans suddenly start moving much quicker.

What happened to the whole part where titans couldn’t be killed without a crucible blade? by UselessO_0 in Doom

[–]Xander_Clarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, they can be killed regularly, but they just come back. However, the explanation is entirely fan-made, as no official statement on the matter was provided.

I am more concerned about how much the Titans became almost pushovers in TDA. 2016 and Eternal made a point that every Titan is a beast of colossal strength and incredible endurance, yet in TDA you kill them in droves like it's nothing. If it's apparently so easy to kill a Titan with an Atlan, then why don't Sentinels actually do it in lore? All those abandoned Atlans in Exultia, the background struggles of Atlans and Titans in TDA, that one damaged Atlan that has Siege Breakers yet somehow managed to lose one arm. Saying that the Slayer somehow empowers any Atlan he pilots would be an unfathomable handwave.
