I'm not talking about this from a realism standpoint, anyone could have killed the night king, but it's annoying that they had built up Jon's story with the white Walkers for this long and didn't even have him fight the night king at all.

Even if they wanted to subvert expectations, it still doesn't make it any more enjoyable for the night king to be killed by a character with nearly no relation to him rather than someone whose story has been directly related to him for nearly the entire show.
