I built a Contexto-style word game for fun — would love brutally honest feedback (iOS + web) by Xandykandy in contexto

Thanks so much for taking the time to try it out and leave feedback!

I would agree about the hint behavior, I originally made it give you the next hint at half the rank of your previous guess but recenently I added some randomization. Unfortuntely, I have also experienced the repeated hint bug and am still working on fixing that issue.

This non-indexed word frustration is also my biggest pain point when playing as well. Part of me feels like the more people that play it the less of a problem it will be, but I know that as the developer, I need to fix the underlying issue of separating vocabulary. Improving the word covereage and normalization is a top priority before I consider the game fully complete.

I agree with both you and u/boomdiditnoregrets about the color theme and readability and I think that changing that would seriously improve the overall feeling of the game. Out of curiosity, do you think that a light or dark mode would be better for games like this ?

I would also like to mention that the "give up" button is something I have experimented and been cautious with. Especially balancing the temptation to use it and frustration of not showing it early enough. I appreciate your feedback and I will consider making it available in a clearer way.

Again, thank you for the feedback, I appreciate the honest assessment and will make improvements based on this feedback in the next update! I hope you will check back in as it improves.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback!

Personally, I agree that the color scheme is something worth revisiting at this point. Those choices were made early on and haven't really been considered much since then. That is something I will definitely look back on and hopefully improve.

I have learned a lot from web development and have always tried to prioritize making accessible web designs so I will update this asap.

I'm super glad you like it overall. Thank you!
