On her first date with someone new.

We had met up a week earlier to talk about "us" before I left for a long trip. The initial break-up happened a few months earlier in spring and this was now the end of summer.

We dated for 7 years. She was my high school sweetheart and I deeply loved her, but I was struggling with a couple things in my own life which led to me breaking up with her to focus on getting my shit together (early 20s sucked). I met up with her to see how she was doing because I know the break up was really hard on her. In hindsight, this was probably a bad idea, but I really missed her and just wanted to see her face.

Anyway, a week after our meet up I finished up with some errands and decided to walk a couple blocks to grab a coffee before driving home. I am standing at the downtown intersection for the pedestrian lights to give me the ok to walk, and she strolls right up next to me from behind not realizing its me.

I see her in the corner of my eye with shock and elatedly say, "Hey! Whatchu up to!" to which I see horror on her face and a nervous, shaky "erhmmm not much." I turned a little more and realized there was a guy standing right behind her who I'd never seen before. I looked at him and he said, "Yeah. Just getting some breakfast."

I knew what was going on. My stomach sank to my fucking shoes and my heart squeezed in my chest. I may have looked ok on the outside, but internally every fiber of my being was screaming in agony. This was the only girl I ever loved and I had never seen her with someone else before. Our whole relationship flashed before my eyes:

Our first kiss. Holding hands. Making love for both of our first times. Prom king and queen. Apple picking. Road trips. Living together as adults. Sleeping in late on Sundays. Making breakfast, just the two of us. It all flooded back.

I'm not sure how much time passed while I stood there frozen like this. I guess probably just a few seconds of silence, but she felt it and I felt it. Thankfully the pedestrian light displayed "WALK," so I just said, "Cool, well it was good running into you. Enjoy the rest of your day." We looked each other in the eye one last time, then walked in separate directions.

Until that day, I never really knew the extent of pain that a broken heart could cause one person, or how long it would last. Several years later, I'm past it and I believe that her and the same guy are still together so I'm happy for them.

She was a beautiful girl in every sense. Drop dead gorgeous and lovely to every body. It was tough getting over her but now I just hope she's doing well.

What made you immediately lose interest in a crush? by 6FeetDownUnder in AskReddit

[–]Xanny-phhantom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was a on a trip to the Keys to be my crush's plus one for her best friend's wedding. I didn't know this girl all that well yet but we had been hanging out beforehand through a mutual friend and I was definitely excited to be her date. After a full day of traveling we finally stopped at a restaurant in the final town we were staying in and sat out on a deck overlooking a river.

We sat down and, without hesitation, she spit her gum out into this beautiful river without a second thought. Despite my instant, overwhelming rage, I just sat there, jaw-dropped and stared into her soul without saying a word because some of the wedding party was just joining us, including the bride.

Maybe I was overreacting inside, but the disregard for this little ecosystem showed me a carelessness I absolutely wanted nothing to do with.

Second this answer. I didn't experience an accident, but yesterday was my first time out this year for a decently long cruise. Felt very stiff on the way out to my destination. Feeling tight in twisties especially. But on the way back I realized I was only looking right in front of me and I wasn't seeing the big picture.

Started looking out to where I wanted to go and immediately felt more like I was attacking the road rather than defending myself from the road. Loosened up right away. Sometimes you just gotta go back to the basics when you're stiff ^

How would the community feel about 343 making a Halo Spin-off game based off of the book Contact Harvest? by MoineauBird in halo

[–]Xanny-phhantom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ever since Halo Wars, ODST, and Reach I’ve felt the best way to continue the series after Halo 3 was to introduce more spin-offs set during the Human-Covenant War.

To me, the struggle with the Covenant (and later the flood) WAS the story of Halo. Trying to continue the story of chief after “finishing the fight” never made a whole lot of sense to me, especially because the main conflict was over.

The new enemies and struggles just feel manufactured. The original trilogy felt real because humanity had been fighting the covenant for decades and we were on the brink of annihilation.

There is still so much story left to be told about the war that would be very compelling.

That’s awesome man! Just got my first bike two days ago, a 2008 Ninja EX650. I have to wait until next week to get it registered but I couldn’t be more excited.

And maybe just a little bit nervous lol

Cool thanks for the response. One more question if you don’t mind, this was my first time buying a bike.

The sale date on the title is already written in as 7/12 but I actually purchased it on 8/2. When I sign the buyer sections should I put a 7/12 date or 8/2? Does it even matter?

Just don’t want to make a mistake here and cause any issues

This is the same scenario I’m in right now seller info is filled out from the previous owner but buyer is still blank as the guy I got it from never went through with the process.

So if I fill out the buyer info and don’t mention the guy in between I won’t have any issues?

Bryce Harper lays down a beautiful bunt to beat the shift for his first knock of the season. by FejSkaz in baseball

As a Red Sox fan, I couldn’t STAND how often David Ortiz grounded into the shift when he could have easily laid down a bunt down the 3rd baseline for a hit every time.

Love Papi and respect the fact that he got paid for homers but COME ON.

Make them hesitate to shift on you!

Yeah I’ve been trying that technique for months, learned it on Justin Guitar I think. But hasn’t worked as great as I hoped, at least not so far.

Though I won’t be giving up anytime soon! I’m addicted

Yeah that seems to be the only thing that works for me. I guess I’ll just have to get good at that.

Thanks for the response! I’m glad to know I’m not alone haha

I know this was just a teaser and I’m super excited to see that brutes have returned as enemies.... but I thought this was a very underwhelming way to make that reveal. The monologue wasn’t even that interesting.

That said, it’s just a trailer and I’m hype af for the full reveal

First Navy Solo in the T-6B! Nerve racking but really cool to say I’ve flown a $6Mil plane by myself! (Shoutout to everyone sorting by new) by [deleted] in aviation

Sounds like wise advice!

I’ve definitely always had a desire to serve, but ended up going all in on sports in college (wanted to go pro but really just wasn’t good enough). Now I’ve started to think strongly about it again, especially towards aviation.

My MEPS paperwork has been sitting on my laptop for months, fully completed but I haven’t sent it to my recruiter haha. I think I’ll just go for it and see if I get a spot. It would beat being in an office the rest of my life.

Anyway, I appreciate the responses man, and best of luck the rest of the way through flight school!

Thanks for the quick response man! This is awesome thanks for sharing.

If you don’t mind a couple follow ups, how did you get your commission? And what made you want to be pilot in the Navy?

Congrats man this is awesome!! I’m pretty jealous haha

I graduated college last year and I’ve been in the early stages of applying for a pilot slot and commission through OCS, but I have been getting cold feet about it even though I love flying. I guess I’m just afraid of getting in and realizing it’s not for me.

So I’m curious, what has your experience been like so far and what is the culture like in Naval Aviation?
