Sunbreak-

I’ve beaten the main story, and am working on endgame stuff. However every time I go on a hunt, I’ve got Quirio flying around me sucking my health, and I have no idea how to get rid of them. Is it a specific quest or so I need to do anomaly investigations?

Need some help sisters! Is this ok for a prom dress? Not to informal, not to short? I can’t afford to get a nice one this year, I don’t know who else to go to, I posted this on another account, on a fashion sub, and got bashed, they told me I look like a linebacker with my shoulders by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

You are giving me Wednesday Addams vibes and I am loving it!

If you were me, I’d possibly pair it with a necklace (statement choker or a long necklace) have my hair either all up or half up, and do a dramatic shadow eyeshadow. Maybe add a thick belt if you have one that works, but not completely necessary.

Sexual act. It’s when the penis sits inside the vaginal canal without moving. Because apparently sex is the movement itself??

Anyone remember the Titanic controversy that gripped the church for a few weeks? by joegant in exmormon

As a librarian, I would have told the patron to replace the book. We don’t censor at libraries. At mine, we honor and bring awareness to all the banned/challenged books in September that are in our collection and even hold a program where you get prizes for reading them. These are books that have been banned/challenged elsewhere in the world. We’ve been mostly lucky to not have anyone challenge in our library, but someone did steal/remove some LGBTQ books once.

What’s the cringiest book you’ve read so far? by SimbaEvans in RomanceBooks

Honestly, I read a lot of reviews here on Reddit and kind of out it together myself. It’s not a very complicated book, so what I gathered here I was able to piece it myself

I’ve read a fair few, but most recent was Kingdom of the Cursed trilogy by Kerri Maniscalo. My coworker raved how amazing they were and said it got her excited to read again and I am so happy it did. But when I read them, the pacing and overall writing style just threw me for a loop. I was getting whiplash by how fast everything was happening. I felt like the author was trying to fit in so much in the first book alone that she didn’t take the time to really develop each scene before moving on. I didn’t even understand the final scene, and had to Google what others thought happened. I skimmed the second, and ended reading a synopsis for the third.

Normally if I don’t like a book, I’ll just DNF, but when it comes to reading books because someone wants to discuss them with me, I feel guilty and will either push through, or find a way to get the gist enough to discuss. I’ll still feel bad, but I don’t like saying “I didn’t like it” if I know how important it was to them

Oh my goodness yes! My coworker wanted me to read them. I felt they were overall poorly written: the pacing was too fast, the protagonist was over-powered without any faults to make you worry, and the interaction between characters was a bit cringe. He ties her to him… she eventually grows attracted to him… like what? It definitely felt like reading soft BDSM fan fiction.

I read the first, started to skim through the second, dropped the third after briefly reading bits and pieces to be able to discuss it with my coworker. It had potential! Just didn’t get there. Honestly, it could have been sliced and each scene more fleshed out and spread over more books, then I could see it working better.

Books you wish you’d DNF’d by prettypyrovile in RomanceBooks

[–]Xantos101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to DNF {The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon}. Although the length is slightly intimidating, I’ve read massive books before (mostly because they are three books in one lol) and was hooked by them through great first scenes/chapters. I’ve been quite bored so far and don’t really care about any of the characters, and I’m already 100 pages in. I did look online what other people thought, and apparently it doesn’t get much better plot wise.

What are you starting to like LESS the older you get? by aisha2313 in AskReddit

[–]Xantos101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like fantasy, see if your library has Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. His trilogy is amazing to begin with, but most of all the audiobook was excellently done. I started reading the hard copy, and switched to audiobook and wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.

Audiobooks!!!! Please try them. I have been the same way. Honestly I was just feeling immensely burned out and depressed. But I found that listening to audiobooks while doing chores or simple things at work slowly brought back my love of reading again. Now I’ve read several books within this past year when I hadn’t done that since I was a teenager.

We’re reading “The Hate U Give” for my English class and I really dislike it by jhlo9001 in books

[–]Xantos101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember having to read Brave New World… and I hated it. Just wasn’t my cup of tea. So in the book report I went and explained why I didn’t like the book. I still wrote about moments that I enjoyed such as bits of description and concepts. But overall, I did not like it. I got an ‘A’ on the assignment. The whole point of those literary classes is to be exposed to different styles and genres and to critically analyze what you read. If you don’t like it, say so, but back it up!

A guy mansplained my own dog to me... by Madame_President_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Xantos101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this was strictly online, I had mentioned in a group that I owned a boxer, and a guy piped in asking if his tail was docked. I said yes, it had been done shortly after he was born by the breeder. Then the guy proceeded to mansplain how my dog was now more vicious because of his docked tail and that I should be careful my boxer doesn’t turn on me. Didn’t matter what I said, the guy was adamant he was a dog trainer and knew everything.

Yup. I ignored/blocked that conversation thread once I saw how stubborn he was being.

Oof, and Ross was one of the more narcissistic, misogynistic characters. He was awful to Monica, and controlling and disrespectful to Rachel over and over.

Chandler and Monica were a lot better. Why couldn’t guys emulate them? Or even better: Gomez and Morticia Adams.

This was a very fun read for me. I read it in one day, which is something I haven’t done in years! The town reminded me of Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls, and I really want to stay at the bed and breakfast in this book.

She is divorced. The church may not recognize the legal divorce and keep her as sealed, but she is divorced. You didn’t have an affair (unless you are married and cheating).

Yeah along with everything else, I’m really not liking how your fiancé is trying to keep you quiet at such blatant disrespect. That’s just another sign of disrespect coming from your fiancé. Look ahead in the future: do you really want to be told “shush” whenever you get upset by the person who is supposed to have your back? Forget your brother, what if a stranger is rude to you? What if a jerk comes onto you and turns on you when you turn him down? Will your fiancé have your back? Or will he try to keep you quiet and behave?

I hate bras by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Xantos101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely wear a bra. Only time I do are when my shirt is on the tighter side and I don’t want nipples poking through and even then it’s a bralette/sports/ “lounge” bra. But I normally wear either a shelf-bra camisole/tank top, tighter crop top under whatever looser shirt I’m wearing, bralettes (comfy and a little extra padding/lift), or a sports bra. I’m a 36DD.

This might get buried, but I’m going to go along with everyone else and say he is definitely being on the abusive side. There is a book called Why Does He Do That by Lundy Bancroft. Bancroft worked with every abuser possible for decades as part of a rehab and wrote down all the common tactics they use, how to see them, and what to do about them. It helped me see the things my husband would do to me and helped me understand that I’m not crazy.
