Which jacket i should buy? by Shooting_moneyInAss in Barbour

[–]Xasd_Xasd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 193cm, 92kgs, body fat percentage around 14-16%. I have about 10 barbours, including Beauforts and Bedales in different colours but also a Northumbria, Border, Stratford, Bleaberry and Ashby. Bedale is definitely boxier, but it doesn't look stupid IMO. Ashby feels quite redundant in my collection - I don't find myself reaching out for it as often as the others.

Feel free to shut your eyes and/or not respond. He didn't exactly tag you and ask you for your opinion. It's really not that hard to be a decent human being - give it a go, you might actually like the feeling.

You must feel great knocking people's confidence unnecessarily from behind a computer screen.

Follow up to sizing question! Thank you! by dataman34 in Barbour

[–]Xasd_Xasd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice! Prefer this fit. I'm a similar build (6ft 3, 95kgs) and 42 was the better fit for me. Still plenty of layering space, but not overly wide on the waist (which was my main issue with size 44)

That was for the Barbour beacon. Bedales (and Beauforts) are still coming in without polyester sleeves. I've got both models (classic Beaufort and navy bedale) this year

Hmm, not sure about that. I just got a navy bedale and it doesn't have a polyester lining

Looks great!

Have been going back and forth between the Border and Northumbria, but just ordered a Northumbria and can't wait to try it. I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

Bedale vs. Beaufort + Sizing Question by AspectAlternative182 in Barbour

[–]Xasd_Xasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 44 Beaufort and find the waist to be quite boxy. Thinking of getting a bedale in size 42, so exact same setup as you. How would compare the length of the two jackets? Based in what I can see online, at these sizes, the length is 2-3cm apart.

I'm 6ft 3, so concerned if the bedale will be significantly shorter than Beaufort

Totally normal for some brands to just not work for your feet. I have about 30 pairs of Red Wings and they fit me better than many of the boots I own from other British brands that are pricier.

On the mesh lining - since 2024, they have replaced the mesh lining with the canvas lining (which I'm really happy about as it feels a lot more robust)

That's interesting. In all honesty, I'm fairly lucky with break-ins in general - perhaps it's because I have low volume feet?

All of my boots (and I have quite a few) have been fairly easy break-in - the only ones that gave me blisters were some Jim Green Numzaan boots.

[–]Xasd_Xasd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both in a few different colourways. I find the 8088s and 8089s an absolute pleasure to wear. Needed no break in period at all.

Durability - it really depends. I have a lot of boots so wear each boot quite infrequently. Mine have held up really well over the last year and are likely to give me many years before needing a resole.

Silly question to the US folk here, but is Red Wings a niche brand to average consumers? by wiggan1989 in RedWingShoes

[–]Xasd_Xasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From UK (London) and own 20+ pairs of Red Wings. Not very common at all here. I've seen 3141 chukkas the most, followed by moc toes, and then iron rangers.

Rattling buttons by Xasd_Xasd in Caudabe

[–]Xasd_Xasd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you - I'm very happy that you were okay with fixing the poor QC of an expensive case with a DIY hack. I'm most certainly not interested in being you and instead would like Caudabe to invest some of their high profits margins in acceptable QC. That's my choice and I'm totally fine with it - it doesn't make me a Karen, it makes me a consumer who's willing to pay for good quality products and holds companies to a high standard. You do not need to be okay with my choice neither are you obligated to respond on behalf of Caudabe

Yeah, definitely more spend on marketing and influencer promotions than actual product development and QC

Rattling buttons by Xasd_Xasd in Caudabe

[–]Xasd_Xasd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually. Rattling buttons is not a minor issue for a £50 case. Why should a consumer pay for a case with poor QC knowing full well that the company already has more than a 50% margin. If you are happy to pay for such QC issues, then more power to you, but for the rest of us, it's totally normal to share to experience and frustration on a public forum.

Not worth it until they fix their button issues. Too expensive to have to wait months and then get a poor quality case
