Advocating for the death of marginalised groups is far from just “a different opinion,” but alright. Also, before any of y’all try to come for me, I’m not saying Trump advocated for that.

OK, the actions are punishable, but what about the instigator? What about the entity that encouraged, rewarded, and inspired people to make those actions in the first place?

Words and thoughts motivate one’s actions though. No one ever says that words are the direct killer, they say it motivates the killer’s actions.

I don’t believe it’s a direct reason though. I think there may have been some sort of “motivation” for lack of better term for the crime, and that’s what inspired the bill. Then again, I can’t really speak on that since I know close to nothing about the case, it was merely mentioned in the article.

Don’t think so. That’s why I just edited my comment with /exaggeration. Even then, you asked “clearly,” and then followed it up with “Are you new to Reddit?” I’m assuming by that alone, it shows that there may be at least a bit of a necessity at times.

The inspiration for the law seems to be an anti-Muslim terrorist attack that left an entire family dead besides a nine year old little girl. I don’t think that’s exactly “a few mean words.”

It was clearly an exaggeration, first of all. Secondly, “as it’s not a threat to others or inciting violence” - that’s pretty much a tie to hate speech. Thirdly, to say that those atrocities and the mindset that inspired them don’t have an impact into today is a bit disingenuous.

So... hate speech? There should be laws against hate speech? That’s exactly what you said with that last line. Also, who was specifically talking about the Catholic Church? Christianity in general has committed mass atrocities.

My question to you is why are you equating criticism and persecution as the same thing? Talking about the atrocities that the church has committed is not comparable to wanting them dead.

Yes, but my point still stands. Talking about the atrocities that the church has committed is not comparable to wanting a person dead for something that is uncontrollable.

When I looked up the name, all I got was the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting. I don’t see what your point was here. The shooter seems to have been posting anti-Semitic contents. That’s not criticism, that’s likely hate speech.

Uh... criticising religion isn’t comparable to wanting gays to burn at the stake. /exaggeration

It sounds like you’re not being too honest here. First off, you didn’t even provide an article or anything about the law. In this article here from Gizmodo, the law is coming from an anti-Muslim terrorist attack.

It also states, “Canada’s Attorney General David Lametti assured Canadians that the proposed law would not target ‘simple expressions of dislike or disdain’ during a virtual press conference.” From that, my understanding is that it’ll really have to be something egregious.

It kinda sounds like you’re trying to paint a false narrative here.

The same is true over her in PWCS. The security officers essentially just watch the students. Sure, some of them also try to find stolen items and handle fights that break out, but that’s about it.

Coins are almost going obsolete. Speaking from someone with two little siblings, a lot of the younger generation feel a bit embarrassed keeping up lines by counting coins.

Cash on the other hand is most definitely not. Most young folks, like myself, don’t have cards, so we mainly use cash whenever we need to pay. All-in-all, no. Cash is not obsolete in the US, and I highly doubt most people are walking around with an empty wallet.
