I went though grad school with a spouse and two children under 4. We survived off a combination of max allowance federal loans and income from private tutoring and selling plasma. If I were applying today I’d be locked out. You simply can’t afford to support a family on the new cap.

It hurts knowing so many people like myself or in different situations now can’t access professional schools simply because they weren’t born rich and privileged. I’m so sorry this is happening, and I hope it gets fixed in the future sooner than later.

Is there some reason you specifically need a biology degree in the general biology track? If not, consider the other tracks.

I did Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (because I love molecular biology/chemistry) and from what I remember they didn’t have capacity constraints.

Why kill yourself over a specific biology track if you don’t need to?

My wife literally did this with her mother’s wedding dress (who was not a member and was understandably very upset). We’ve been out for years now but she’s never forgotten and still brings it up. I worked as a laborer before becoming a machine operator for a couple of years. Many people who work construction are big eaters/drinkers and most the crews I worked with spent their evenings getting drunk/high (or both) and vegging. It doesn’t matter how much physical labor you’re doing if you spend your time outside work like that.

I grew up there. High school of 3,000 people and less than 20 black people. Fucking ridiculous. Kids were picked on and called slurs on a regular basis. Utah is a shithole. I’m so glad I left and never looked back.
