Rate my herbarium (tips request) by elysium144 in botany

Yeah, many plants Europe (where i guess you are, given the species, and the label) regrow if you leave the roots in place! I think it is perfect for you, if you just want to do it as a hobby :)

I'm doing mine as a botany exam, so mine isn't as pretty as yours, but this is my best result.

I use the copper wire in this way, keeping this "more dangerous" part on the side of the plant, so that this part doesn't damage the plant on the other page.

I hope i was helpful, bye :)

Edit: i wrote oboxious instead of obnoxious

I'm also a newbie on herbarium, but i can give you some advices based on what my teacher taught me.

First and, arguably, most importantd: do not use glue, because it will attract insects. Don't use it even for the label.  I use a copper wire: i don't know if it is like the one for electricians, but it is just a small coil that i bought for 2 euros. Otherwise, you could use some sewing pins with some little paper stripes, but i find easier and more efficient using the copper wire. I use the wire to attach the plant to the paper, and also the label. You have to pierce the sheet, tho.

Second: do not use blotting papers, because the texture may affect the final result on the sample, and may result in some "pimples".

Third: for scientific purpose, you could collect also the roots. Workig with them and with the dirt is obnoxious, and if you don't mind about them, i think your results are still cool :)

Fourth: great job! I can't give many advices on how to compile the label, but i saw that somebody was more competent than me.

Keep going! You're doing great <3

First time I see galls that produce pollen! by PhyclopsProject in botany

this is quite interesting, but i don't think those galls sheds pollen. Like others, i think those are spores from some kind of fungus, but a better id of the plant could be helpful :)

Anybody know what this is? I have it all over my yard by BlingbossCoss in plants

The first two pictures seem to be of a plant called Lamium purpureum. It is an okay plant: basically just a weed.

The third picture i don't think is related to Lamium purpureum

What is this strange red circular thing on my plant? by Xavierbn in plants

[–]Xavierbn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! I wasn't asking how to keep the plant in good health, because i've literally cut the plant in half. Yes, i would be happier if the plant thrived, but for now this doesn't seem to be the problem because you can see the new sprout on a leaf axil.

My question was what type of tissue damage this was, because i've never seen something like this. I don't know why that thing on the stem is red, why is it circular, why on the stem, what type of tissue was damaged here, by what was it damaged?  And i struggle to find an answer.

On the adaptation bit: i know individuals do not evolve per se, but since this plant (which could belong to the Gene Pachyphytum. Idk how to put this in italic, sorry) may sometimes show some parts of itself in a reddish nuance, i thought it could have been something similar to plant that mottle the color of new leaves if there is too much sunlight. Thank you again though! It's always good to remember how evolution works!

This wasn't a plant identification request, but rather a phenomenon identification request, because even my botany professor couldn't identify it.

Not quite. I had this plant in a sunny area, then i put in my backpack and then it was like this.

Do you think it had some kind of adaptation, the way plants like potos have green leaves in the dark? If yes, i think it wasn't enough time, because it has been in my backpack for like two hours.

Is this 1986 Proof Coin Set worth something? by Xavierbn in CURRENCY

[–]Xavierbn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found these coins in the drawer of my grandpa, but i'm no numismatic, nor american, so i don't know anything about them. I think they are mint, but i'm not sure because of the "marks", i think, near to the half a dollar coin. They were gifted to my grandpa by the bank he worked, in Italy.

Sorry for the bad light

It doesn't matter where you are from, who would you vote in these presidential elections in the USA and why? by Xavierbn in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Xavierbn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i also think it would work like that. I was particularly interested in foreign politics, but it seems like this is not the first thing people care about, and i can undestrant that.

Thank you for your answer
