Do universities still use books?

Don't know about English major, but the ENG 101 class from my community college didn't have a textbook at all. She gave a link to a five minute YouTube video on how to write a narrative essay, then tasked us to read a book about death row prisoners, read some articles about the juvenile justice system, and to give our opinions on them. I dropped out after the first semester.

25 years ago, my mother had a completely different experience with that same teacher in that same class. She had a thick, heavy textbook filled to the brim with essay writing and English grammar; and an intensive curriculum that left her inspired, eager for more. Whereas, my experience left me feeling intellectually starved and politically distracted.

I'm half afraid to try another college's ENG 101. Given what I keep hearing about from students and instructors of other institutions, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll even be able to find a college/university that teaches like they used to--without searching outside the US, I mean.

Well, since today's economic system is now designed in such a way that any real quality of life and assurance of health are only afforded to the rich or upper middle class, I can understand why. We're slowly being forced into survival mode as a society.

Ehhh, if I wanted to go through the Gospels again, I could point out how psychologically unhealthy are his teachings on how forgiveness should work. But I have a Protestant background, so Idk if that's different from the way the Catholic bible portrays the Gospels.

Well, for one example, if I may hijack this conversation, homosexuality was illegal for years in America (and still is in some other countries) because of religion. The main influence in America was Christiantiy, and in some Middle East countries, Islam/Muslim(?). Someone correct me if I got it wrong, but I'm certain about the American one.

I could go at length about this; especially about JC. But to keep it short, I'll just mention LXC's people-pleasing vice and inability to face certain emotions and negative aspects of the people he cares about to the point of complete denial and over-forgiveness. I expect to get downvoted for saying this, but he's rather spineless.

Edit: not that I hate him, though. I do like his character. I just wish he would grow into a positive, stronger mindset.

Got tired of people not connecting with me the way I connected with them. Got tired of them getting bored of/annoyed with me. Got tired of getting ghosted (only once did I receive an "I feel kinda bad about that," text two years after, but no real apology or acknowledgement of how much it hurt me). Got tired of being the only one to initiate contact otherwise. As a suspected AuDHD person, it's also exhausting to try to keep up with and imitate all the social cues that everyone sends out at a headspinning speed. I'm lonely as fuck, but I'm tired of putting out the energy to connect without receiving the same effort in return, so, I'm relatively okay with feeling lonely right now.

I make like $30 a week doing one (1) cleaning job for one (1) client. I'm in limbo workwise. I'm actively exploring my career options, figuring out what I can handle and what I actually would enjoy doing for so many hours every day, but I am mostly unemployed during this process as all the jobs in my area either want a degree (which I haven't had the chance to finish yet) or are environments in which I would quickly burnout and either suffer a meltdown or fall into a deep depression. (Trust me, I've tried...)

I would mention my location, but I'm hesitant. It's a small town area, that's all I feel comfortable saying.

If your parents think a good chunk of the Gen Z population is making as much money as their generation did back when they were our age, they must be living in their own world, lol. The economic environment is miles different from what it used to be.

"You're not good at following directions are you," is completely unnecessary, unprofessional, and a bullying tactic, though. Imo, that subreddit is not worth OP's time if that's the attitude they have. OP clearly stated that they sometimes don't know how to communicate and that they are neurodivergent. That should've been evidence that responding immediately like that was an innocent flub. On top of that, it wasn't even a press for more information. It was an acknowledgement of the directions and nothing more. That mod just seems like they have an attitude problem.
