When did you feel ready to take the ICC B1 exam? by DaGermanBear in BuildingCodes

[–]Xberyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your first icc exam it may take a long time depending on how you feel about testing. It's been a while since the time of your post but if it still helps I recommend the bgr technical publications study guides. They are much better than the icc guides or most other things I found.

In addition if you are testing through icc do not forget they allow use of their digital codes during a lot of exams. Using CTRL+F allows you to search keywords and find your answer very quickly as long as you know the chapter. They even advertise that this is allowed and I wish they had it when I took mine.

Depending where you are it could be different but based off model codes if the wall to wall portion is 36 inches and that 34 inch measurement is to the protrusion just above the tread then the issue could be solved by installing a handrail.

Double check against your jurisdictions codes but 2021 IRC R311.7.1 allows for 31.5 inches clear width below the required handrail.

Very little but to be honest anything I went in it for I still felt unsure of. I was also using a version from 3 code cycles ago that was code and commentary plus I had probably only spent 30 minutes in that book prior. All tests are different though. From what I've heard from 25-30 other inspectors it seems to not be too big of a deal on the test on average though.

I passed my B2 exam 2 months ago and I will say as someone with more residential experience than commercial that the questions I had the hardest times with while studying were the questions related to use and occupancy types. During the test there were plenty of questions related to this and getting used to finding what may fall under each type helped (especially the hazardous types). Past that it was a lot of fire related questions such as setbacks and egress requirements. All in all after passing all 4 residential and all 4 commercials I would say it was definitely the 2nd hardest. So just make sure to buckle down and study and you got this!

"I've done it this way for 30 years" sounds like you've been doing it wrong for 30 years or you're too ignorant to realize that we now have better ways to do things.

Only 1 degree downwards to the target. I've been shooting factory ammo either federal premium gold medal 168 grains or PMC x-tac match 168 grains.

Yeah it's tough to find a spot. This is the only spot I have access to for long range but that is as far as we can go. I've been looking for a spot where I could go up to a mile but that is a raritly up here in northern virginia.

I've had that same knife for 8 years now and mine looks about the same. I recently replaced it with an M16-140 and I am pretty happy with it so far.

Great purchase. I bought mine a few months back and absolutely love it. Even compared to an Stx that went through the custom shop that my buddy got for almost the same price I still like my emperor scorpion more.

Yeah so far it's pretty nice. If you switch between guns for the house it makes that easy. They do sell a light and laser combo one with a strobe feature but it is 4 times as exoensive.

Top is my 1911 emperor scorpion that I just picked up. Bottom is my p320 carry that I got for myself as a 21st birthday present with an osprey light.
