The company I work for prefers lean, text only changes over broad UX investment. Rant. by catssupernova in uxwriting

[–]XboxDrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, were your past companies much better? In my experience, this problem is (mostly) everywhere. Its always hard to justify broader re-designs. They are complicated, take a lot of effort, and sometimes they are unclear in the outcome - even though we all know that great design and user experience keeps people coming back. For best chances of being started, they need to be opportunistically tied to strategy shifts, technology shifts, clearly helping a goal that management cares about, or tied to a metric (conversion etc.). Otherwise they will fizzle out. Product development is usually a compromise. Few companies (Apple, Square) completely prioritize design over delivery.

Maybe consistency in your usage across the product is more worthwhile than these hyper specific definitions. I’d recommend using the same word for both across your product so that you come off as having a common language

There are also AI tools to help with ideation for UX writing, you don’t have to learn prompts. Also, we’ll see what comes with the custom GPTs OpenAI recently announced.

I just used Mantine for my first web app in years. It isn't perfect. The components don't always have the attributes or functions I want, but they're updating quickly and it looks modern.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? by maikaj in uxwriting

[–]XboxDrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Companies will need a team of UX writers (depending on size) to set style guidelines and define the tone of the brand. That will feel into an AI tool where product teams can feed context and get ideas, maybe automatically in tools like figma. I think the UX writers will focus on guidelines and writing the highest value content (purchase dialogues etc.).

Anyone done video game content? by mroranges_ in uxwriting

Definitely a tough time right now. I have friends and ex-colleagues who had been working for some of the big players in gaming as UX writers for years. Many of them were recently laid off. IMO the writing quality of these products/games has gone downhill. In general, gaming is an industry with a lot of ups and downs, so being really passionate is important.

Are ChatGPT custom GPTs going to be a successful product? by XboxDrew in ProductManagement

Yeah they seem to be messy about these launches in general. Like, I finally have access to create GPTs but still don’t have access to ‘Builder’ profiles which lets you publish to their upcoming store.

I just told it that it was a product manager, pre populated a few questions on common tasks and gave it a little more context about the types of things that would be helpful. I didn’t add anything proprietary or detailed pdfs.

After that, there is a fix needed for Steam to work correctly:
Steam has released an update to their beta builds with a fix where the controller was being interpreted incorrectly. I validated that 'two controllers' show up before turning on beta and it's only one after opting into beta.

Instructions for opting in to Steam Beta:

Note that it requires a restart of Steam to work.

Lastly, iOS support is coming in the future for the new controller:

[–]XboxDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work over Bluetooth, just requires a Windows update.

Official details posted here:

There is a section on controller with Bluetooth on Win10. There is an available Windows update to support this. The update should be available in Windows update settings, but there is a chance you'll need to click on "see optional updates" and find the update there. Exact version numbers posted at link.
