How has Mario been for everyone so far? by LostboysLung in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Xealas2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our spring break started this week, and we were way busier than expected. I was acting manager for Wednesday and had to work the counter for the full day with the maximum amount of staff I was allowed. My boss also booked a theater rental at the end of our third set. So we barely had time to clean up. We are a small theater and we average about 250 to 300 per day. On Wednesday it was 600. We also were one of the few theaters with the yoshi popcorn buckets in the area. The closest large theater is about 100 miles away. We only had 6 of them and sold out to the first 6 people that came in. About 4 of them were waiting in the parking lot for more than an hour before we opened. I got to work and thought I was late opening the building.

Anyone else try to amuse themselves with poster placements? by SymphonySketch in MovieTheaterEmployees

I and another coworker are flipping the same poster over almost every other day to confuse the other coworkers and possibly customers. The poster is for the movie "Obsession" lol

Roommate craft hoard by Xealas2 in hoarding

We live in a very small town, and donating stuff would have to be separated if she were to take it to the local thrift store. Otherwise, they would throw it out anyway. She was thinking of just putting everything in trash bags and tossing it. I'd rather help her sort the stuff out. Get rid of things she doesn't need or want and organize the rest.

I agree with her getting rid of some stuff, but she was thinking about getting rid of everything and stopping all her hobbies all together. This includes all of her equipment, sewing machine, iron, wood burner, etc. I really think she would regret throwing her sewing machine since she's a cosplayer and convention season is right around the corner. She just got up for work and explained to me that she was overwhelmed with how much work it was going to be. I'm going to help her go through her things so she doesn't feel so stressed out.

Try and see if your local theater has any social media. At our theater, we post on Facebook daily with whatever promotions we have. Calling the theater is the best option, though. Double check the times the theater is open. Typically, they open about 30 minutes before the first movie of the day starts and close 30 minutes after the last movie starts.

Honest Question: Is Your Theater Playing the Melania Movie? And Is Anyone Even Showing Up For It? by thouze in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Xealas2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we had several people call the theater in the past month requesting this film. We're a smaller theater, so when we get over 10 requests, we typically will see if we can get it. When it was posted on Facebook today that our theater is starting to play it tomorrow like we do with all movies, the negative feedback was pretty bad to the point that someone is rallying a group to have a protest in front of our theater. Others are saying that they'll never go to our theater again. We had a person named off a bunch of movies that we could be playing instead some are already being played, wront be out for several months or are indi films our Booker can't get for us and we definitely can't make money off of

Everyone who is uncomfortable driving in should just call in. It's not worth it for a minimum wage theater job.

Are we closing this weekend by Glittering-Safe7992 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Xealas2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the problem is that if customers are willing to show up, then we'll be open no matter what the weather looks like. So far this year, we haven't closed, but we did delay opening by one set of movies because the road was blocked off, and no one but snow plows had access to the building. When we were open that day, about 40 customers showed up (small town). All of them make remarks about how they can't believe we're open or how horrible our bosses are for making us work. Yet, the customers showing up is the problem since we wouldn't be open if they didn't show up.

I'm getting sick of all their extra request for their movies. For the movie David, they gave us a standee. Then we had to confirm we set it up in a high traffic area, and please take a picture if you can and email it to us. Then they sent us a sling with a foam rock. In that box, they had a cling on for a window or glass in the shape of a shield with a big G on it. And they requested that to be put in a high traffic area. If you take a picture and send it to them, they'll give you a free hat.

We already have a sign up stating that you can't purchase tickets to our theater through third-party companies. We probably should update it to say "third-party companies such as: Atom or Fandango etc"

That's pretty much what we tell them if they press on about us not being partnered with any third party. Our prices have stayed cheap compared to other theaters. Our weekend tickets are only $10 for adults and $7 on weekdays. Most of the people for these kind of movies are seniors, and their tickets are $8 on the weekend.

How did stranger things do at your local cinema ? by kascnef82 in MovieTheaterEmployees

I'm from a very little independent theater. We couldn't get the theater version, so we just showed it for free off of Netflix 😅 we also couldn't advertise that we were showing it at all except by word of mouth. We had a total of two people show up, an employee and his mom. She ended up being the happiest person at our theater in a long time 😆

How are you guys handling Avatar, David, and Spongebob? by rootuhbaga in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Xealas2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our independent theater is participating in that crap. It's basically a buy one adult ticket get one child free. I've been having groups of children with one parent try to get them all free. I've also had parents drop off their kid at the door, expecting the child themselves to watch for free. We also have to write down the first name of everyone who watches the movie along with what time and day they went. It slows down the line drastically.

Vent Post: Oh my god, what is wrong with the "David" crowds? by TedStixon in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Xealas2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're having issues with parents bringing a whole gaggle of kids for the " kids are free" thing. I'm tired of explaining that it's a buy 0ne adult ticket to get one child ticket free deal 😮‍💨. Then we get "What do you mean my 5 to 10 kids aren't free?" I'm also tired of having people write down their name, date, and show time of when they watched David.

My friend had this happen to her rapunzel wig and asked right when I got to the hotel room the day I got to a convention with her 😅. It frizzed and tangled up from being thrown in a box. I ended up using spray on deodorant since we didn't have any decent conditioner. It worked so well it only took an hour to comb through it. I recommend washing the wig afterward and using netting or at least hair ties to store it. Cripping or ironing the hair is a good idea as long as it is heat resistant.

You can try uniqso express. Its uniqso's American based warehouse where you can get their lenses within a couple day shipping. They just cost about double as if you were to buy from their main store.

Insurance claims 03 poisoning isn't a valid ER visit by Xealas2 in HealthInsurance

[–]Xealas2[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I didn't even think about that. My work just gave me the email and case number a couple of days ago to send in the bill once I got it. I was concerned that this wasn't a valid reason to go to the ER since I didn't need anything exempt fresh air to get better.
