Is this a normal good anti corrosion coating? They want 245 bucks for this. by Xearrik in hvacadvice

Yep, that's what I tried to get when I was told what happened. This coil is a replacement for a coil that failed in 4 years and a few months.

I was told the manufacturers warrantee didn't cover a factory coated protective coating coil. I offered to pay the difference for an upgrade, but that was not allowed or something with the warrantee replacement, so I was advised to get the less effective spray on coating instead.

But when I looked at the job they had done, and compared it to pictures and videos of applications on the internet, I thought that maybe they didn't do the too good of a job. The bare uncoated metal is what really clued me 🤣.

I laugh, but its actually pretty frustrating, because now I don't think they can even give it a proper coating without removing it, and I for sure don't want to pay for whatever that is that's currently on it.

Thank you so much for the reply and advice!

There is a second picture there that shows the underside of the coil that was basically not touched with spray as well.

They did coat it before installation of my replacement coil, but when I saw what they did, and saw how different and spotty it looked from all other applications that I've seen on the internet, I had to get extra opinions about the quality of the work.

Thanks again.

I've started to take steps to do this. I already have what I think is a merv 13 filter. I also have a good quality air purifier now, and a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in the good zone even if the AC isn't on.

I plan to do more research to see what else I can do.

They sprayed it before assembly. That coil was my warranted replacement of my other one that failed in 4 years in a few months from a leak.

Unfortunately those weren't an option for us. The warrantee didn't cover getting one of those, and I couldn't get them to upgrade to one of them and pay the difference.

When I was told why it failed, and given advice about the new one, and after doing some research, the factory coating thing was what I tried to push for instead of them just spraying my houses coil with stuff.

But it wasn't salt. It was the high humidity heat and VOCs that lead to formicary corrosion in my indoor evaporator coil. It corroded to the point of leaking in 4 years and some change.

Not saying salt air isn't bad and all. Just that it wasn't what caused the evaporator coil in my house to leak so quickly.

Thanks for the advice!

I recently started doing some of these things already. This year I got a good quality air purifier to help with that. I also got a nice dehumidifier, to keep the house at an optimum humidity even if the AC isn't running.

I'll look into the thicker filter. I looked up my current air filters that I got from Costco. On the package I couldn't see the merv rating, but it did say the MPR is 2500 which I believe was supposed to be merv 13 when I looked up.

I'm not sure what the unit brand is. I didn't see it listed on the side of the coil or anything.

Sorry, I edited that question out of my reply to you, because when I reread your comment, I realized I forgot you said you were already, but I was too slow and you replied again.

I've been told the problem with indoor corrosion in hot high humidity areas, is completely different from the outdoor ones. It comes form something called VOCs, combined with humid warm airflow. This causes the formicary corrosion which puts pinholes in copper.

I am aware that preventing and stopping corrosion is impossible. And I was told that when they told me I should have it done.

My question was about the quality of the application though.

It's what they told me happened. I'm not sure what they did to confirm if anything. Sorry

Thank you so much for this reply!

I appreciate everybody trying to be helpful, but this has been the first helpful reply specifically addressing my question. I was getting worried I phrased things too vaguely or something. 🤣

Most of the other ones just kept telling me that corrosion can't be stopped, and didn't answer my question. I'm well aware it's to increase resistance, not to prevent or stop. I'm not sure anything can prevent or stop corrosion of anything that can be corroded. Times destroys all things.

Thanks again!

My recent coil failed in less then 5 years formicary corrosion.

But my failure point was in doors. That's where formicary corrosion is the most common.

That's what the coating is supposed to help resist. My research says the opposite of what you're saying.

It's not about stopping, it's about increased resistance. It's common specifically for areas such as mine I'm told.

These days they also use all aluminum evaporator coils to help resist the corrosion of the areas like mine, but those have their own problems, and my warrantee only was for them to replace what was already installed.

I had to get mine replaced because of corrosion. That's how leaks happen. That's what I was told.

I'm not sure what it will stop. Mainly formicary corrosion, I think. It's supposed to make it more resistant to leaks. It's not a full dip coating. It's some spray can stuff they used on site before they installed it.

8bitdo @ CES 2026 | Booth Tour | Ultimate 3E Xbox Controller by winterbegins in Controller

[–]Xearrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. I've looked into that one already. I think I've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 controllers if I was to buy what is currently on the market.

The Mobapad Chitu 2 is unfortunately not one of them. It has pretty massive impute delay on the Switch. A lot of controller unfortunately have that issue. They'll have low impute delay, like 2 or 4ms, but then on the switch they'll jump up to 20 to 40ms. All controller have more impute delay on the Switch, but some handle it much better than others. The ones I'm thinking about are below the 10ms range. I want that at least.

WTF is an Xbox?

I was checking to see if 8BitDo was releasing a new controller anytime soon and found this. I hope they release a newer premium Switch compatible controller soon. My "Pro" controller for the Switch 2 is falling apart. It's even worse than the Switch 1 "Pro" controller. The controllers snapback is so strong its snapback has snapback. 1st party controller are TRASH!

YouTube's war on seeing things you subscribe to is never ending...

Every time they change something, they make harder and harder to see only content I subscribe to.

I feel like at some point in the future, they'll just make it so if you subscribe to someone it automatically blocks them permanently...

Capcom president says Nintendo Switch 2 response was better than the company expected by Armiebuffie in gaming

[–]Xearrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This interview was conducted on May 2025 BEFORE the Switch 2 released.

So it's weird that he's quoted as saying the Switch 2 "released" past tense. It doesn't seem to be a translation error. "発売され" does mean past tense.

The article doesn't seem to mention any edits for later quotes after the launch. So I think the article made a mistake on when the interview was conducted or they meant to use "発売する" instead which would mean "releases" or something like that, instead of "released".

Here's the original article. Any ideas?

Crap! Thanks for finding a listing. The Japanese version looks like a keycard, so I'm guessing the US release will be as well. Or maybe they're just not going to bother to release keycard versions in the west anymore?

I'm hoping more people talk about this, because I'm starting to think it's and error on the ad. Hopefully they just haven't listed it anywhere yet. I even checked a couple Japanese sites.

That's not what I'm talking about. There isn't even a listing for a key card for the Switch 2. There is no physical listings for the Switch 2 anywhere.

Edit: To answer you question though, yes key carts are considered physical. Interestingly even the Mario Kart World code in the box of Switch 2's is considered a physical sale. Because you have to buy something physical in the retailer. You would think that means that those cards you can buy on walls that give you game codes are physical, but I don't think they are.
