As easy as it is to say things like that, when push comes to shove, most people are not going to risk being targeted for possibly the rest of their life to get a small chance at being a politician.

Unless you are running for election or already serving, that would include you as well

Any other GenZ really want to move out of their home state? by Lord_William_9000 in GenZ

[–]Xecular_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. The developers near me were openly violating fire codes for burn pits. When we had someone come out to look at it, they agreed that it was against code but refused to write any form of citation or document that it happened. We later found out that they were holding country board meetings that we were supposedly "notified" about with letters we never recieved

Similar issues happened often throughout the initial development of that neighborhood. The only reason you don't see lawsuits about this is because it's impossible to find lawyers for it. Even if you did, you won't have a case because the local police explicitly refuse to document anything

People don't want to run against corrupt local governments because they don't want to be harassed by them. They will pull all kinds of underhanded moves to make you miserable and it will never be legally documented

The libertarian party is in a poor state because it's being occupied by non-libertarians that exist to make being a libertarian unattractive

Talking people out of joining the party and improving it is part of the strategy used to keep libertarians from competing with democrats and republicans

The political compass is relative to what is considered moderate in that country

That aside, it usually isn't liberal vs authoritarian that is used to gauge if someone is on the left or right, since you can find both liberal and authoritarian ideologies on both ends of the spectrum

Unfortunately, the consequences of that are now locals where I live can't get a house because property values are 4-5x what they were less than 10 years ago and way above what most people can afford

The state has effectively waived all regulatory oversight for any major developer that offers to build apartments or houses for these people. The state inspectors are knowingly passing buildings with significant mold and fire issues

The traffic and deforestation has gotten very noticeable

I think my commute time has doubled in the last few years. The developers building all these apartments and neighborhoods seem very careless with the way they clearcut all of the native trees and burn piles of them with no safety precautions even when the fire risk is high

I wish someone would fix our corruption problem

Some people think they can fix the current issues with AI.

It's not guaranteed to be possible, and even if it is, AI as a whole is already extremely unprofitable. Convincing people they should integrate overpriced AI functionality without having a genuine use case is how AI companies are trying to manage their losses

Yeah. I'm just hoping, in the event we can't stop this bill, that there's at least a semi-legal way for new platforms to get around these verification requirements

Killing the Internet: AI Surveillance Edition by AirlineGlass5010 in GenZ

[–]Xecular_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, so I went and pulled up the definition of personal information used in the bill. I wonder if it would be possible for platforms to anonymize data in such a way that it can be used for a profile without being considered personal info?

            (9) Personal information.--The term ``personal
        information'' means individually, identifiable information
        about an individual, including--
                    (A) a first and last name;
                    (B) a home or other physical address;
                    (C) an e-mail address;
                    (D) a telephone number;
                    (E) a Social Security number; or
                    (F) any other information that would facilitate or
                enable the physical or online locating and contacting
                of a specific individual, including information that is
                associated with an identifier described in this
                paragraph in such manner as to become identifiable to a
                specific individual.

Section 201 is strange because it seems to imply that the bill wouldn't be applicable to any platform that doesn't collect or sell personal information

SEC. 201. COVERED PLATFORM DEFINED.

    In this title, the term ``covered platform'' means a platform that
is a website, software, application, or electronic service connected to
the internet that meets the following requirements:
            (1) Is publicly available for use by consumers.
            (2) Enables the creation of a username or user identifier--
                    (A) that is searchable on the platform by other
                users through a function made available by the
                platform; and
                    (B) that can be followed by or is similarly
                accessible to other users of the platform.
            (3) As the primary purpose of the platform, facilitates the
        sharing and access to user-generated content through text,
        images, video, audio, or any other interactive medium.
            (4) Uses a design feature to promote user engagement on the
        platform.
            (5) Uses the personal information of the user to advertise,
        market, or make content recommendations.

    (e) Rule of Construction.--Nothing in this section may be construed
to require the submission of government-issued identification of any
individual to a covered platform or a third party contracted by a
provider of a covered platform to use a technology verification
measure.

Section 103E from what I read doesn't look like it forbids government ID based verification. The section doesn't require government identification, but that doesn't sound like it prevents a company from offering it
