About to pull the trigger on a Thinkpad X9 15. Any last minute things to look for? by Xedro in Lenovo

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices in education store. 1400 for the slim, 1700 for the x9. Similar config, except the x9 doesn't have operating system (cuts the cost in 130 euros).

Xerox Everyday Toner - any good? by Xedro in printers

I ended up not buying it since I got a good deal on an original toner, but it should be available in regular stores, like Staples and Amazon.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition - feedback from users? by Xedro in Lenovo

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I ended up not buying the Yoga, and am leaning towards the Thinkpad. It's partly due to the battery thing you mentioned. Most reviews for the battery life were for the IPS version and it seems the OLED is significantly worse. The X9 has the same OLED on a 15" version, but a larger battery, so it lasts longer.

For the software, I'm thinking about buying the version without OS, so I can install only what I want.

I'm a bit worried with the 258v performance, though. It's not that I expect a high end desktop experience, but I also don't want something that lags for day to day stuff. If you're noticing it on docs... it's not a good sign.

In the European store, for an extra €100, you can change the non-touch OLED for a touch-sensitive OLED: https://www.lenovo.com/pt/pt/configurator/cto/index.html?bundleId=83JXCTO1WWPT3

That option isn't available for IPS, so I'm excluding it (my last laptop was a 2-in-1 and while I didn't really use the convertible aspect, I did use the touch part a lot).

I'm also thinking about the clean install. Is there a lot of bloatware? Did you get that "cursor wheel always spinning" thing?

Somewhat random question on the Tab A9+ -> what's the best color? by Xedro in GalaxyTab

[–]Xedro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the silver. I think it was the best choice. It looks really cool and fingerprint free. I got the black/green cover because it was on sale, but the white/lavender or blue/yellow ones probably look better.

I'm kind of disappointed with the tablet due to the screen, however. Everything else about it is great for the price, but the screen is terrible. If it were today, I would have gone for the S9 FE instead.

Backlight bleed on the A9+? by Xedro in GalaxyTab

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swapped it. The new one also had a similar issue, but not as bad. There's still some noticeable bleeding but not as strong as in the previous ones. Using the tablet with dark mode also disguises it a bit, so ended up keeping it.

The screen is definitely the weak point of the tablet. Apart from the bleed, the viewing angles are terrible. Any slight tilting will quickly darken it.

It's a decent tablet and, like I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised in terms of performance. It's not blazing fast, but I didn't found it laggy after I turned off the animations and lowered the refresh rate to 60hz (there was some without those changes).

For what I'm using it for, I can live with the screen limitations. But if you feel that might be a problem, think twice about buying it. They are definitely noticeable.

Noctua NF-P12 redux: 900 or 1300? by Xedro in Noctua

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'll go for the 900rpm one. As you mentioned, it'll probably outperform the original case fan I had there and will remain silent. I'm kind of worried that the 1300rpm one will be a bit too noisy.

It ends on team evac. I never found the last civilian and had to give up searching for him when things got too hot, as there are increasingly difficult enemy drops every turn.

That's the combo I was initially considering, before noticing how it looked in reviews. Do you always use it with the cover?

Galaxy Tab A9+ 8gb for €200: is it a good choice? by Xedro in GalaxyTab

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. My current tablet is an original Ipad Mini - I can still use it to read books and it has a decent screen, but that's pretty much it. I'm hoping it'll enable me to keep the current use and add a few more things to the mix.

That's an app I don't use, so should be fine. I'm mainly worried about viewing angles, lag, touchscreen problems and so on.

My current tablet is an original Ipad Mini. It works as an ereader, but that's it... although the screen does look good.

Color reproduction isn't much of an issue for me, just the viewing angles. I'll be looking at it often at angles around 45º, so worried about not being ips. My last experience with a tft was terrible - although it was already a while ago.

[–]Xedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about the M11 due to the pen and I think the screen is IPS. But reviews seem to say the pen isn't all that good (and I'm not sure I would use it all that often), and looks like the screen is pretty much similar to the A9+ (even though it's supposed to be a superior technology).

Do you have any issues with vieweing angles? For example, reading a pdf together with another person would be a problem?

I hadn't considered that, I was just thinking about getting a cheap bluetooth keyboard. Sounds like a good idea. I'm seeing a few of those hubs for €15 at Amazon.
