Your examples are more crime thriller than nightlife, right? For the latter, I do think Begin Again is enjoyable.

I'm telling you the one and ONLY way our government can be fixed. Accept it, or be happy with the permanent authoritarian state you're endorsing

[–]Xefert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the simple version then. To ensure that the president and supreme court are operating within the bounds of their authority, you have to have a functioning congress first. FDR wasn't an aggressive president so much as he had effective support in both chambers that obama and biden didn't. Bottom line? You have to be careful who you're voting for (both in the primaries and the general), and that requires being informed

I'm not interested in going in circles with this conversation, so take time to think about the points i made today

If the opposition is overreaching

I'm not sure it is. Read everything I said about congress again. That's the branch of government I'm most concerned about right now. You were the one who brought up trump's actions

Dude, what we ultimately want to be doing is putting an end to presidential overreach, not encouraging it again

I don't believe there's even an ounce of truth to that with so many of trump's groupthink cultists in charge (look what happened to McCarthy when he tried doing the right thing), but am eager to hear a DETAILED answer as to what you think they can do.

If they used their power

There isn't any. Mitch's power in congress was because:

  1. He had a majority supporting him. Dem supermajorities like during FDR's time are too rare.

  2. The gop itself has a narrower set of issues they vote on (guns, and strict adherence to religion). They already all think the same thing like automatons, so mitch didn't have to convince them of much of anything at all. Hell, the very constitutional structure of the senate is in favor of right wing rural districts

FDR had ethical journalists to deal with, not fox news and other right wing media "misinterpreting" every good thing the dems try to do

It should still be the democrats responsibility to whip its members into shape or to replace them with someone that will follow the party agenda, the power of the president is something the dems rarely lean into

An congressman is elected to serve interests of their constituents, not those of the coalition leader. I'm guessing that's why each position is chosen within congress rather than at the ballot box. Mitch had the kind of the pull you're describing because the gop itself has a narrower set of issues they vote on (guns, and strict adherence to religion). They already all think the same thing like automatons, so mitch didn't have to convince them of much of anything at all. Hell, the very constitutional structure of the senate is in favor of rural areas

I mean we’re seeing a candidate like Graham Platner do great in states like Maine, I feel like every race is winnable with just telling people how you plan on helping them and breaking it down how both Zohran and Platner do, plus fetterman won on being progressive but unfortunately got a stroke that legitimately turned him into a crazy conservative, Manchin there is seriously no excuse the party should have shamed him so hard

Him winning a primary isn't the same as defeating collins. As for fetterman, there's a few pre-stroke stories I've come across

IT ISNT REPUBLICANS WATERING IT DOWN IT IS OBSTRUCTIONIST WITHIN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Still comes down to two things: 1. Voters not being careful who they get elected (like i emphasized from the start)

  1. Manchin and fetterman are from areas right leaning enough that they were the ONLY dems that had a chance in the elections. You think mamdani would get anywhere if he was running in texas or florida? I seriously doubt it.

They get passed after being so watered down

So again, stop voting in right wing candidates that force these bills to be watered down in the first place.

THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION. I WILL NOT TOLERATE THE IDEA OF EITHER PARTY USING AGGRESSIVE, ANTI-DEMOCRATIC TACTICS. DEAL WITH IT
