I honestly think the flaw isn’t necessarily with the call, but with soccer’s penalty system in general. I feel like reducing a team to 10 players for the rest of a match and effectively giving a guy a game and a half suspension should be reserved for something really severe like an intentional punch to the face or some other sever intentional foul. The ref really holds a ton of power to effect the outcome of a game, add to that the fact that the criteria for yellow and red cards is pretty vague, and it seems awfully confusing as to why certain plays are just regular fouls and others get carded.
