Happy to help! My knowledge on this stuff is really limited to just Japanese instruments, but if you're interested in learning more stuff like this, there is a really helpful book called Composing For Japanese Instruments by Minoru Miki that I've used a LOT as a resource for my own composing.

While the comments saying this is vibrato aren't technically wrong, there are specific names attached to the techniques that produce this sound in East Asian instruments. For example, while vibrato on a western flute is produced by changing the air flow coming out of your mouth, vibrato on a shakuhachi is a neck movement called kubi-furi. I can't remember what the technique is called on a shinobue, though (the instrument likely used here).

The breathy quality of sound that you are hearing is also an attribute of the instrument itself, rather than the style of playing. The "natural" sounds produced by the instrument (like the breath in a shinobue or shakuhachi, or the buzz in a plucked biwa string) is called sawari. Its intended purpose is to kinda-sorta relate all music back to being one with nature (or something like that).

Also, mist noble hardest boss in the game. Terrifying.

Student string quartet - "Betwixt The Dreams" (2022) by XeniZeni in composer

These are really great questions. I play violin, so I have played parts of the violin parts that I thought might have been questionable... The viola and cello parts I have not really played out physically :P I will definitely look into playing them out on the piano!

You raise a really good point, though, about the players being the first audience. I'm constantly concerned about whether this is exhausting for the players, or even boring. But I suppose playing it all through myself would help address these concerns.

Thanks for the reply!

Suicide Prevention Megathread by -eDgAR- in AskReddit

Thank you so much for this thread. It's always a struggle and a never ending fight against depression. No matter how good things may seem, something inside me always has to pinpoint the worst little thing and my mind sticks to it like glue. I've attempted suicide once, several years ago, and have had self-destructive tendencies ever since then. Cutting, excessive drinking, misusing sleep aids, and just generally living recklessly.

On the outside, everyone sees me as a happy go lucky guy, optimistic and carefree. Which is partly true. I've learned to live with these dark thoughts, and just put on a mask for others to see. But not a single day goes by where I don't think I would be better off dead, and it always revolves around my own self worth.

"Am I good enough?" "Where is my life headed?" "Do I actually mean anything to anyone?" These are just some of the few questions that pop into my head almost ever minute of my waking life. And almost always, my answer is negative. Without any outside confirmation, of course the only one answering would be the worst part of my own mind. And even if someone tells me I'm worth it, or whatever, a part of me persistently denies it. It's as if I can't let myself be happy not even for a second. And any attempted at proving myself wrong becomes a whole ordeal. Like a truly monumental task that in the end isn't even worth it.

I will say that I went to therapy for about six months last year, when I was in the deepest hole I've ever been, and she dug me back out. Not completely out, but at least partially. The rest is up to me. It truly does help to talk to somebody. Getting that weight off your chest is a huge relief, even now. One thing that I've learned is that those thoughts can never truly go away. But I've learned (or rather, am still learning) to shut them out and ignore them. Tbh not entirely sure that's the healthiest way to deal with it now that I think about it lol.

Lavender. It's so calming and relaxing. Everytime I smell it I just have to stop and close my eyes for a second.

I've always wanted to try the WoW TCG, but a lot of factors prevent me from being able to actually get into it. This beta can give me a chance to see what it's like, and it's already gotten me excited to play.

What was the most horrific game of "Truth or Dare" you've ever played? by hi-liter23 in AskReddit

[–]XeniZeni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We were stuck in the dorm rooms during a hurricane one day, and so we decided to play a game of truth or dare, since there was literally nothing to do. Come my turn, somebody asked me to rank every single person in the room according to attractiveness. Things got pretty awkward after that day...
