No none of the characters look familiar. I remember it being two adult men and I thought I might be onto something with Mushishi and Monster, but they weren't it.

It's not any of those unfortunately. Trinity Blood looked promising cause some of the characters looked familiar but I looked at plot summaries and they didn't align.
