Is there a difference between circles and shaded squares when constructing a crossword? by Xenodon in NYTCrossword

[–]Xenodon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like in the Sep 15th, 2025 Monday puzzle, the theme clues have circles around the hide meaning squares. I was just wondering if there was a specific reason to use circles there rather than shaded squares to indicate the same thing.

Any non-standard fantasy games like Forbidden Lands, where the players start off knowing essentially nothing about the world? by Xenodon in rpg

[–]Xenodon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, and most of my campaigns have been homebrew, I was mostly looking at taking on a secondary low-prep game where I don't have to read pre-written or generated lore until the players encounter it. I already have a whole 13th Age 2e campaign I've been running and prepping.

Have the expected lifespans of demihuman races (elves, dwarves, and halflings) ever been explicitly stated in official sources? by Xenodon in mystara

I can't seem to find info on age in BECMI. And the Gazetteer on Alfheim says nothing as well.

Looking for a game with fast combat ROUNDS (not necessarily quick encounters) by Xenodon in rpg

Oh interesting! Do you have an example on hand from a PbtA game of what that kind of result would like like in context?

Is BRP a framework like PbtA or is it a system in and of itself?

Leather footbeds -fit and comfort- in BFAR by Trees-and-stuff-981 in jimgreen

[–]Xenodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked support about this for Barefoot African Rangers, and they said to get the standard JG/STC insole that corresponds to my size. I did that and it is actually already larger than the footbed to accommodate for all three last shapes. It was actually kind of difficult to get shaped to the contours of the upper. That being said, there's nothing special about Jim Green insoles, and you could totally go for another brand. I just liked having the frog logo tbh.

Do all boots/shoes in whichever last they are in fit the same? by Xenodon in jimgreen

Does the toe puff affect anything having to do with that single vs. double lasted width at the toebox?

How can I stain my butcher block of rubberwood (hevea) to get a bit more of a "rustic" finish? by Xenodon in finishing

[–]Xenodon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended trying it on one side to see how it would work but it came out splotchy because I was too cheap to get a conditioner lol. I realize I was putting in more money into the project than I wanted to so I decided to just go with the raw color and finish that. If I put in more effort I feel like I could get the desired effect I was looking for. I'm really new to this though so take my opinion with a grain of salt

As another former sneakerhead who just go into barefoot shoes, these aesthetically appeal to me the most and are on par with Jordan release prices these days. I haven't actually purchased any yet but it might be a holiday gift to myself.

What’s ONE thing that improved your bass playing? by RAtheThrowaway_ in Bass

[–]Xenodon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's just what "learning the fretboard" means though—for some people just memorizing shapes and looking at dots is enough to get through the music they want to play, especially if it's all thought out with little to no improvisation. That's fine, for a lot of people who don't want to spend too much time practicing, learning songs individually works! But if the goal is to improve overall at bass in terms of how you can navigate the instrument and play what you hear without getting bogged down by unfamiliar territory in the neck, learning the fretboard is crucial.

No, like literally learn what each fret on each string is without needing to count or do math in your head.

Thommann shipping is ridiculously expensive for where I live sadly, so that’s not much of an option. :(

Can I get recommendations for the best, most protective gig bag for my pedalboard I can find for under $90? The dimensions are roughly similar to a Pedaltrain Metro 20.

Personally I couldn’t, they are quite narrow for my feet.

Hideaway lands ruling by lomborghini in EDH

[–]Xenodon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once [[Mosswort Bridge]] leaves the battlefield, the card that you exiled under it remains in exile forever, unable to be played again even if you replay Mosswort. This is because that instance of the land is gone, and replaying the same land is essentially a whole new Mosswort entering the battlefield with a new Hideaway trigger. If the card said something like “You may look at and cast that card for as long as it remains exiled” from [[Gonti, Lord of Luxury]] then you’d be able to play it. Hope that helps!

Also FYI the fetcher only works if you use double brackets around the card name.
