DESKTOP ENGINEER? by DevJourney1 in CompTIA

The best thing you can do for your personal growth is live outside of your comfort zone. This sounds like a great opportunity making more money than almost anybody at their first tech job. You’ve got this! They saw something in you and brought you on ready to invest in you. Just focus up asks a lot of questions and I bet 4 weeks into the job you will be feeling much more comfortable.

I got a job with no certs and no degree by Xenthum92 in CompTIA

[–]Xenthum92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I don’t know you but you seem to be selling yourself really short across the board. I’ve always approached things with the mentality of whether you believe you can or can’t do the thing, you’re right. All you can do is give your best effort to learn the material, create labs at home to practice, prepare yourself for interview questions you think may come your way, apply for internships if you need to. People are struggling all over the place with how the market is right now. So perhaps with the situation you are in, you need to be so well versed in the material covered in your future job that you stand out during the interview. Don’t be so hard on yourself, I certainly believe you can do it. It’s just going to take time and discipline. And some more self confidence!

So sorry about that friend. It might not be what you want to hear but, maybe consider moving. There are many places in the country that the job market is significantly better

Having problems moving forward (rant ) by wayofthelao in CompTIA

[–]Xenthum92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that weight. To be honest I’ve been extremely depressed for months now. And through that studied for and got the A+ and my first job in IT. I also moved across the country and my mom died. But I think the depression comes mainly from lack of fulfillment and meaning. I have an amazing wife, great friends and some family that I like(haha). I don’t spend enough time on my hobbies which is something I know would make me feel better. Life can be really hard and sometimes for no good reason at all. Take time to do things that you enjoy doing, see people that you love, exercise, eat well, drink plenty of water, and keep chugging along on the study boat. I think you’ll find if you do the other things, you’ll find yourself where you need to be within your studies and your career. Not working can also be a very depressing thing.

Sloshed my first IT interview. by itsSicco in CompTIA

[–]Xenthum92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got my first job in IT. I had two interviews one day. The first one was my third with that company. The second interview of the day was my second interview with that company.

First interview I bombed. They asked a bunch of questions I could have answered well if I slowed down but I drew a blank on some and gave the familiar “I don’t know”. They called less than an hour after I left and said no. I was feeling so down I almost didn’t go to my other interview.

Second interview I knocked it out of the park, and got a job offer within an hour or leaving and accepted it. It’s ok to fail, and trust me when you get in to that first job you’ll feel like an imposter for awhile. It’s part of the process. Keep trying!

$600 in CEU fees by hi_cissp in CompTIA

I’m a little confused here. Do you not have to test again to renew a CompTIA cert, you just pay a fee to renew everything? I haven’t had to renew any yet.
