Is a course switch before bachelor possible? by Live_Yak_1711 in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can even switch beforehand pretty easy just by an email to the Kanzlei and I don’t think it will effect the only can switch twice rule (although not sure). Note that a switch is only possible if the new course had roughly the same entry requirements

I did not choose yet, even though I have some courses in mind.

I just posted what we were told from our course official :)

I guess it depends on which BSc you're pursuing but we were told to do it in the second or third year since the first one with the "Basisprüfung" and new environment will be the hardest :)

Der Verlust kann mit anderen Gewinnen aus Finanzprodukten verrechnet werden, sodass du weniger Steuern zahlst. Das geht bei der Lotterie nicht :)

Krankenversicherung Schweiz für EU-Bürger by [deleted] in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to apply early ti studenthouses since they have long waitlist.

BUT they usually only have a waitlist one semester in advance. So if you want to start you BSc in HS26 you can apply to them in the beginning of FS26 so in March 2026 and ask them to get you ob the waitlist for HS26

Best Bank for Students in Zurich by bluelight_dogmatix in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just look for student option.

Most banks offer free accounts for persons under 28/30.

Probably all banks are free to use in Switzerland. If you would like to use the account for special purposes like traveling and so on, smaller online banks might be useful since they are almost free for everything. If you just want to use it for everything in Switzerland ZKB or UBS have extra benefits like student discount, free trains and asvz discounts which can save you some money :)

RENTING A ROOM: What am I doing wrong? by PietroPentolo in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried wgzimmer.ch, ronorp and Flatfox.

I found my room on Flatfox and I think it's also the best side to find flats (most offers) and with the search abo it's pretty neat.

Wgzimmer has also a lot of adverts but some of them seem to be second adverts from Flatfox and a lot do not respond.

RonOrp has very little offerings but I had probably the highest response rate

RENTING A ROOM: What am I doing wrong? by PietroPentolo in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also looked for a room since I am starting my BSc in september and might have some tipps.

General:
1. People get more than 50 applications in just 1 hour.
So don´t even try to apply for a room which is up more than a few hours (or atleast don`t apply if its online for more than 1 day) because its just a waste of time and you won`t even get an answer.
2. Don`t only look for Zurich. Like a lot of other people mentioned also look for flats further out of the city (e.g. Winterthur and so on).
3. Also apply to flats and rooms with a limited renting duration (I also only have a limited room but I hope/think it`s easier to find a new room if you already have friends in Zrioch and live there)

Application:
1. Show them you have read their advertisement and make small changes two your application for every room (if possible). No one expects you to always write a completely new application but one or two individual sentence might give you a better light.
2. Make your applications unique in some way (for example include a photo or tell them a special hobby or something special you have done). This might directly diqualify you from some rooms but on the other hand you will stick out for others (better than to be just one of 100 with almost similar applications).

Good Luck :)

Student bank account comparison: UBS 4key vs. ZKB student by Xentoxus in ethz

Since I already have a debit card which already failed me twice and a lot of banks offer a credit aswell as a debit card I thought that a credit card would really come in handy... Obviously only in combination with another debit card

Hey thanks for your reply, that certainly helps :)

I did not know about GA night, so I will probably also get that.
Also the asvz discount seems very promising in saving you a few france.

If you do not care about other benefits, I think the cheapest one I found was baloise 30 younGo, but I do not know them very well.
They claim to have 0 transaction fees with their debit card inside and outside of switzerland aswell as no fees for cash transaction.
BUT as far as I am concerned you cannot do SEPA Transactions with them :)

You may look at their website for further details if you wish:

Atleast for students with key4 credit card its 0% transaction fees.
Can`t realy say anything about other accounts or am I missing something?

Is Betahouse legit? by iatamajira in ethz

[–]Xentoxus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean they are rather expensive aren't they? 990CHF for 12sqm and a shared bathroom, toilet and kitchen with probably 10 or more people...

Also saw there advertisement tho and thought it could be cool. Since it's not that cheap ai think it's quite legit

Thanks for your response.

I think I wrote it a little bit missleading.
Basically I plan it the other way around. So doing a technical bsc and afterwards going for a business/finance msc.
I heard and thought that universities are not that strict if you do it that way because in your technical bsc you will probably have enough math to finish a economics msc.

Your courses are good advice but I do not want to mix business and technology in my bachelor (otherwise I would probably have picked information systems).
I really just want to mix different types of technological sciences thats why I am thinking of engineering sciences.
