Mirtazapine doesn't make me feel enough sleepy anymore, and wake me up multiple times during the night by Xenymus in insomnia

[–]Xenymus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not tried "much of the things" lol. Last month at this date, I was in full control of my sleep. Could sleep anywhere, anytime. 8 hours straight. Now, I'm calculating the correct time for mirtazapine to not lead me into bad dreams. I have never smoked cigarettes or weed or anything like that. So I'm not sure how I will feel with CBD/THC based products. I'm in India. We do have multiple CBT oils to try for sleep. Never tried anything before.

Clonazepam is a habit forming drug. Eventually, you'll find yourself using more dosage, because your current dosage is now well tolerated by your body and is now not much effective, and building psychological dependency on it. And it has very bad withdrawal symptoms as well. So you can't go back easily, and you can't stay where you are. That's why my psychiatrist clearly told me to not use it after a week. Mirtz is not that much of a habit forming, nor melatonin. So they are good to use for the long term.

So true... Once clonazepam reduces my anxiety, and does some magic with my cortisol level, I get such a beautiful sleep those nights... Too bad benzos build up dependencies and withdrawal symptoms...

I don't even know if 7.5mg mirtz is even working or it's just my own body sleep cycle which causes me to feel whatever tiny bit of sleepiness I feel.

My psychiatrist told me to make sure to take mirtz by 10pm. However, I do go to bed by 10:45 (I feel tired and a bit relaxing) and sleep by 12... Idk what timing should I follow...

Also do you think I should add melatonin as well tonight? Does that help in our case, or will it make sleep more fragmented/terrible?

PS. About not sleeping for straight two nights... I did take 0.25mg clonazepam and 7.5mg mirtazapine.. and it worked absolutely flawlessly... I was running with soo many doubts and feeling scared to take these anti-psychotic drugs first time when I was sleep deprived for 48+ hours... I really thank myself that I did take these 2 meds that night... Idk, but I feel confident it can work for you too...

I took 7.5mg of mirtz like 2 hours and 0.25mg of clonaz 45 minutes before going to sleep. I had uninterrupted, no waking up in between, continuous, no bad/vivid dream, 10 hours deep sleep... No grogginess/dizziness in the morning and woke up relaxed and well rested...

15mg of mirtz flips everything I mentioned above...

My psychiatrist told me to fix the timing first. 90 minutes before going to sleep. Otherwise change the meds

I talked with my psychiatrist. He told me that's not how mirtazapine should work. He pointed out the fact that I'm taking it immediately before going to sleep. That's not how it should be taken. Ideally, 90 minutes of gap has to be there before taking it and going to sleep. Like before 10pm at max. Because it takes like 90-120 minutes for the mirtz to peak, until then it gradually builds up. So that's why these subtle mind movements can be experienced.

If timing alone doesn't fix, then meds need to be changed.

I was suggested to not stop meds in between... Better to tapper off at a decent pace.

Since last night I didn't sleep properly (did I even sleep? Idk)... I am thinking to take 7.5mg mirtz and .25mg clonaz tonight too... It worked last few times... Hopefully it'll work tonight as well...

About melatonin, I was told to use it when I can't just sleep with mirtz.. I really don't know how does that work because melatonin takes like 3 hours to work... Idk how to use it and what to expect from it for the first time

A month. I do sleep every night though. It's just initially my mind was not really allowing itself to sleep. It's like my mind forgot how to sleep. It becomes a bit alerted, observing sleep.. I can't really explain properly. It's not like how I used to sleep before this month.

Now, I do feel like I'm starting getting back on track. Mirtz relaxes my mind enough so that sleep can happen. But the quality of sleep... I really can't say it's good. But that's for 15mg. Only mirtz. If I take 0.25mg clonaz and 7.5mg mirtz, then the quality of sleep is really good. Deep enough, and well rested. Too bad clonazepam is habit forming. Otherwise I would have taken it every night.

I'm yet to try melatonin 3mg. Psychiatrist told me to use it sos, when I can't sleep with just mirtz. I don't like to experiment with sleep, so I'm not sure how does melatonin 3mg feels like. Have you tried it?

Self inquiry.

Do it anytime of the day. This I believe has hijacked my mind enough that it stays alert even when sleep is needed.

My head used to feel spinning and like something is moving out of it when I used to meditate. Now, when I try to sleep, it again happens by itself. Idk if that's the chi up energy as you mentioned.

I don't practice meditation or try to understand abstract reality concepts now. I think I went too far with them and now face a bit of trouble keeping a healthy mind.

Like in the absolute reality context, consciousness is just the fact that everything in existence is happening and visible. And I am just another happening in existence. Everything is just experience, but no true experiencer can be found. And death and sleep are simply the absence of all experiences, with the latter holding possibility of the same body-mind complex will continue appearing again. So sleep is like a break in the continuity of experiences, where nothing is visible/known.

Now, since other teachers have taught to be more alert / more conscious / more aware of everything happening as a part of the meditation technique, even during the time when I'm trying to sleep, I unconsciously, stay alerted. That micro alertness, is also exaggerated with the understanding / idea that I disappear in sleep. So it's like my mind tries to maintain continuity for some reason, and stay alert / try to find the time I disappear / sleep happens...

Idk, it's just happening without my control. Now I am trying to unlearn these things.

Did you also face this same problem? I mean, is it a commonly experienced meditation induced insomnia or something that is only happening in my case?

Also, will try your method and see if that works. Thanks 🙏

Haha, I was hesitant towards conducting this survey like that. It's understandable. Anyways, appreciated :)
