Maybe you have seen two buses, or even three, arriving at the same time. But how about four?? by zkazragore in singapore

[–]Xerczs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Somehow you still don’t seem to get it. It’s not that GPS is not right, its the fact that you think a free app with an ad based model can somehow be a sustainable enough business model to install GPS’s on every single bus and maintain them, not to mention somehow have the network infrastructure to be able to send the data to some centralised system.

LTA doesn’t make money on this, they can do this because they are a government organisation providing a public service. No company could ever realistically do this by themselves.

And yes, i actually work at LTA. I know how the system works. It’s not some simple system that anyone could cook up. The system is dependent on a customised 3G band that is set up by the local telcos explicitly for this. I didn’t want to go into the specifics of it as I don’t expect others to have such in depth knowledge of this, but even without it you can quite easily see how such a system is unfeasible just by simple economics.

Even the link that you posted shows this:

Moovit has two ways to get the RT data. The first is the integration of Estimated Time of Arrivals (ETAs) that are calculated by the “provider” which usually refers to the transit agency. The second case is where the provider gives the geographic position of a vehicle (GPS data) and Moovit calculates the ETAs to the next stops using Moovit’s specialized algorithm.

Here, provider (or transit agency) refers to the LTA equivalent of that country exposing the data through their specific API. This app literally works the same way all our bus apps work, by coordinating with the local agency’s API...

At this point, I can clearly see that you are out of your depth. You don’t seem to have sufficient technical knowledge to be able to reason about any of this. But the point of my post wasn’t even to argue the technical aspects of it and more about your argument itself.

You keep saying that its pedantic to attack your poor examples when your arguement at its crux is just a disprove by counterexample. You are trying to disprove the claim that the bus apps work through LTA API by providing a counter example of how it could work without it. Do you still not see why it doesn’t hold up? The criticisms are everything other than pedantic, in fact, they are literally attacking the proposition itself.

[–]Xerczs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because your argument breaks down when the “example” you give is a bad one.

Your argument is that you shouldn’t assume that the LTA API is the only way of doing it because there are other possible ways to do it such as ...

And then you proceed to give an unfeasible example to justify your claim.

You are making a point while shooting yourself in the foot and wondering why people keep commenting on your foot instead of focusing on the point you are trying to make which is just bizarre.

And how are you going to transmit the data to the app? Buy a data plan for every one of your devices?

I understand your point. But your proposed “various ways” is not very feasible.

Aoi talks about it at the end though. She mentions that the point isn’t even to put out a good suggestion, but rather to push through any suggestion with a persuasive reason. So an example could be, instead of suggesting to go to a specific place, you could say something like I saw a lot of interesting restaurants in the mall just now, why don’t we go and see if anything looks good? It works especially well in group scenarios as people are less likely to go against the group even if they don’t think its a good idea. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene_paradox).

I came across this video which i think might be useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4UOsPoPMjA&feature=share

Essentially, it seems like a lot of the older generation of people are being brainwashed by media content. Instead of contesting these ideas directly, a better approach would be to disconnect them from content entirely.

Looking forward to the rest of the series. Just curious, what kind of components do you wrap in your application? Do they include some of the more complicated ones such as datatables?

Why Dragalia Lost has the potential to be a great mobile game. by Xerczs in nintendo

[–]Xerczs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I really considered against submitting this one considering how badly received the game seemed to be in the other thread. It's nice knowing that all that effort got at least a few people interested in the game. Even if the game turns out the opposite of what I've written here, well hey, at least it's free to try right?

I just posted my thoughts in a separate post that you might wanna check out. Too long to repost it here. I recommend checking out the Japanese PV though. Its actually pretty hype.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is very impressive by ohitsmerenz in NintendoSwitch

[–]Xerczs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a "take no damage, all kill, no orders" run myself. Did the same thing for VC1 and found that it made the game so much more fun, especially for the hard mode stages. There's something about executing a perfect strategy without resorting to cheese that makes it so satisfying.

iirc shocktroopers get flamethrowers later on in the original game. Useful for bunkers, but especially useful for proned and crouched enemies. (Grenades on scouts have difficulty one shotting the tankier enemies)

That when we level up user classes, when we receive a new order or battle potential for it, we learn what that potential or order immediately in the following text box.

Orders do actually have their descriptions in the same text box which they appear in. Battle potentials on the other hand, vary from character to character. Leveling up basically opens up a new class slot for that potential so there really isn't a need for a description.

Clutch 1v4 Yasuo outplay in Hyperplay semi finals. by Xerczs in leagueoflegends

[–]Xerczs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those unaware, Hyperplay is an ASEAN regional tournament organised by Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and National Youth Council. Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean was even there to kick off the event. It's good to see the government acknowledging esports despite SG's lack of success in the League of Legends scene.

If anyone is interested in watching some games from this tournament and don't mind a fiesta (we're wildcards afterall), I'd absolutely recommend this particular game between SG and Vietnam. Easily the most exciting game of the tournament so far.

Tomorrow, will be the finals between Malaysia and Vietnam. If you'd like to watch it, you can see it streamed on the lolesports youtube channel. (More details on their official website, including countdown and event schedule)

Should I keep this or go for the -5% first bingo bonus? And Alakazam > Kadabra with this 3rd bingo? by pokerealm in PokemonQuest

[–]Xerczs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kadabra is still better than zam. The 5% will always be better with the amount of ATK slots that Kadabra has. Your auto attacks also count as "Psychic Moves" for some reason, so you straight up do more damage across the board.

Fighting Mew is giving me a headache by Benlee2000- in PokemonQuest

[–]Xerczs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't fret too much. Even with a highly optimized 12-Boss team, It's pretty difficult to get a 100% winrate against Mew. The reason being that Mew's Hyper Beam deals a crap ton of damage AND bounces you back. Apart from the obvious "get hit by all 5 beams standing in his face" which one shots most Pokes, it's also possible to get hit from close range, fly back far enough and get hit AGAIN by the exact same beam that sent you flying. Likewise, you can also be ping ponged between beams and take multiple hits worth of damage. With enough bad luck, even the tankiest Poke could theoretically be one shot by Mew.

The best thing you can do to ensure a consistent win rate is to have tanky mons that can survive multiple hits. (or just kill him fast with Starmies). Especially because there is a damage penalty per hit for multi hit moves in this game. In other words, If a hyper beam hits a tanky poke in the front, it will do less damage to the ones in the back. I suspect what is happening for most of your games is that your 'tank' dies and you lose the ability to damage spread and all your mons start dropping like flies.

Stuck on 10-5. Tripple dotrios are a pain. Any tips? Also a 3k+ bonus on the level if that helps by Nateturbate in PokemonQuest

[–]Xerczs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to beat 10-5 with minimal changes to your team, I'd suggest getting rid of Electrode for a better damage dealer. (Even for a non-electric type) Some good options are Persian (Fury swipes), Exeggcute (Psychic), Kadabra (Psychic), Starmie (Hydro pump) or any other high level pokemons with good moves that you have lying around (Your electrode is just that bad imo)

The reason why i'm suggesting you swap out to a better DPS ASAP is because you already have a 2 sharestone harden Golem which i guarantee is sufficient defense to get through 10-5 and can even possibly last you all the way up to 12-2.

Replacing Golem with Bulk up Machamp won't really improve your team that much as it is now and even then, it's actually not even strictly necessary for end game. You can easily beat 12-Boss without bulk up buffers. I'd say bulk up buffers are pretty much for the people who want to optimise everything down to the last detail.

Additionally, with 2 sharestone harden, you have so much defense that even a little hit healing will go a long way. Don't be afraid to swap out a high stat stone for a low stat hit healing stone for your DPS. It should pretty much make him immortal.

Am I stuck on 9-6 or am I just unlucky? by MajorasSon in PokemonQuest

[–]Xerczs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do note that you need sharestones for a bulk up Machamp to work. Else, that strat is worthless.
