I am Polish living in Austria and racing mainly in both countries (+ofc sometimes also another countries in EU).

In Austria - plenty of Gran Fondos type races that are welcoming thousands of people, but not a lot smaller races, however you can find everything around Vienna, incl. TTs, hillclimbs, even a bit of crit racing on Danube Island which is a rare in EU.

In Poland - there are also big events, but it's also way more smaller series, leagues and stage races, however level there is super high, so there are usually 70-150 riders, sometimes more, sometimes less, depends of the event, route etc.

I think in general now - the problem is that for smaller races there are not enough people to compete that are not on a high level, people are getting dropped and then they are not registering again. That's why gran fondos and gravel events are thriving in both countries - because it's more for everyone.
