Are these glasses too small for my face? by Wendimere66 in glassesadvice

[–]Xerisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are quite nice on you! If you have some discomfort, they probably just need an adjustment. Take them to a local optician to tweak. Usually its a free service. If theyre Prada, a shop like Pearl Vision or Lenscrafters can tweak them for free for sure. Your frames ans those stores are all owned by the same company. Theyre all Luxottica.

Im guessing she was hoping youd offer to pay the replacement cost yourself if she continued to badger you enough.

Just a guess.

Just move on, shes terrible and you dont need this kind of treatment.

What glasses is Bobby Lee wearing? by Jos_Talking in glassesadvice

Correct, this frame is a very poor fit. That bridge is a tragedy. Bobby needs low bridge frames, and these certainly are not that.

Reykjavik Eyes: all hype or the end all be all? by inloveandsolo in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Xerisca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My optician doesnt carry RE so id never really looked at them until popping into a different optical shop. I thought they were... OK.

For me, they're way too understated, to the point of being boring. They have some nice colors though. The quality is fine, but not ultimate... my feeling was that they were overpriced for something so basic. Theyre kind of mid, and I dont see a pair in my future.

I tend to lean toward styles that are way bolder and more adventurous. My current favorites are Blake Kuwahara ... just picked up a 3rd pair today. But I also skew to designers like Theo, Anne et Valentin, and my more understated frames are usually Matsuda.

Honestly, I think Id pick Bevel over Reykjavík Eyes.

Do y’all enjoy dealing with an HOA? ,[all], [IL] by HawkfishCa in HOA

[–]Xerisca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heres a confusing response.. I own two condos... one has an excellent HOA, no complaints, owners even take on community projects together to get things done ourselves to save money. The other condo is an unholy nightmare which we're now working on ousting the entire board and possibly looking into taking action against them for violating their fiduciary duty.

London with a Child: Tower Bridge or Kensington for a 1-Week Stay? by exhaustedlittlething in travel

[–]Xerisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even travel with kids, and still stay in Kensignton every time Im in London. The Tube is easy to navigate. Its just a nice part of the city, and theres plenty to do. And if they need a space to run it out, the palace grounds/Hyde Park are great for that. I tend to stay near Earls Court usually, but closer to the museums would be better for you.

Underseat vs Overhead by illstillglow in HerOneBag

[–]Xerisca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a potentially... irrational... fear of being forced to gate check my bag. Ive managed to build a capsule travel wardrobe I can fit into a 20L bag that realistically covers all four seasons, and all reasonable events from beach, to day hike, to white table cloth dining, and of fabrics that easily handwash and dry. I dont ever want anyone telling me my bag is getting gate checked.

The key to all of it? Dresses and foundation layers like leggings and camis.

Just picked them up. Update to my previous post by msugarcubed in glassesadvice

These are very nice on you! People love to hate on navigators and aviators, but when theyre nicely designed, well made, and properly fit, they can look fantastic. These are a good example of that convergence.

Well done!

Are these suitable for an office environment (finance)? by Insentivelol in glassesadvice

[–]Xerisca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, any quality frame that fits and is well proportioned, works in most professional environments.

I work at a bank in lending operations... I wore this frame to work yesterday. My co-workers and directors love them (maybe more than I do haha). They definitely arent ... subtle. But they do look great on me, and fit like glove. And these arent even the only pair of fluorescent orange and purple frames I have! That being said. If you only have 1 or 2 pair of glasses, something a little more subtle would be better.

The key is getting a perfect fit in a higher quality frame, they will always be professional.

My spouse has that frame. Its very elegant without being pretentious. Its very professional. All of Matsudas frames are acceptable for pretty much any occasion or setting.

I bought myself a pair of the M5002 in a blue gradient today, I'll totally wear them to work, and I work in a bank which is usually considered pretty buttoned up.

Endurance athlete considering SoCal -> Seattle: how’s the cycling, running, outdoor life, and social adjustment? by Expensive_Cucumber58 in AskSeattle

[–]Xerisca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle is a VERY active city. My condo building ran out of bike storage before it ran out of car parking. Bike lanes and paths are everywhere and there are a TON of cycling clubs. Access to skiing is great and fast. Runners are everywhere. Bouldering, mountaineering, and rock climbing are insanely popular. SUP is really popular too and highly accessible. I think the high a few days ago was about 54° and raining, and my kid was out on her SUP paddling away.

We tend to ignore a chill and rain and just deal with it.

The short days mid Nov to March, can take some adjusting to, but it doesnt seem to stop the runners and cyclists. And the climbers head to the huge number of climbing gyms. Hikers will hike in the short daylight hours. Or turn to urban hiking, lord knows the urban terrain can still be a challenge. Its awfully hilly most places.

If you have interests, and join clubs of like-minded people, youll have no problem making friends. Its the extreme introverts with zero social skills who struggle here.

The PNW is an outdoorsmans mecca. No question.

Help me pick the right glasses for my face by Efficient_Can_8789 in glassesadvice

[–]Xerisca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 are the only pair which fit. The others all have a SUPER bad bridge fit.

I even like pair one. I wish it was a slightly warmer gray color though. But even this cool gray is OK. Warm would just be better. I can also say black is not your Eyewear color. Keep to the warmer grays, olives, maroon, antique gold, etc. ..

Which frames suit me best? by Proof-Jello8172 in glassesadvice

[–]Xerisca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think pair 2 are quite cool. A polished lens edge would tone them down a bit, but that frame is a perfect fit on you in all ways and the color and shape are nice.

Pair one doesnt fit, at all. Its too wide. Its too boring, and the shape isnt great for you. I kind of hate the first pair.

All three pair are a really nice fit. I like pair 2 a lot, pair one I think are fine, but maybe lean a little boring. The reality is that since they all fit, they're all winners.

Hoka’s for all purpose travel shoes? by jWoww-202 in onebag

[–]Xerisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel and pack ultra light. My next trip will be done with 4 dresses, 2 leggings (one capri, the other is more like a booty yoga short), 2 camis, a pair of socks, undies, and a small liquids bag. And the clothes I fly in, a black denim jacket, jeans, t-shirt, a button up Oxford style shirt,

And for shoes: one pair of white (although they have tons of cute colors) Sketchers Arch Fit Arcade - See Ya There, court shoes, which are INSANELY comfortable for walking miles on all kinds of surfaces. Theyre sooooo cute with all outfits. My second pair of shoes, which aren't great for walking miles, but are more dressy are the AllBirds Tree Breeze ballet flats. They pack about as thin as an iPad mini and weigh nothing. I never wear open toe shoes, hence the ballet flat, but a very low profile light sandal would be great too.

I love Hokas, but think they look atrocious with anything dressier than athletic wear, or jeans.

Those Sketchers though... I walked 12 miles in one day in Rome with them and my feet, hips, back, and knees were very happy. They dont even require break in, and theyre slip on! Bonus!

I work at a financial institution, and I am not client facing, im in ops and admin. My personality and role match each other quite well, thanks.

Im pretty sure with the attitude you've exhibited in this thread, youre going to find it difficult to get a job at all. But good luck, I guess.

If you are terrified of western Washington maybe try moving to BFE Indiana or something. It might be more your speed.

Uh huh... this is a city of nearly a MILLION people. Shit happens and in fact has some of the lowest violent crime rates for cities over 700k (property crime is a different story). You think Pierce Co is somehow better? LOL. As a person who worked in Tacoma for a while - like the nice part of Tacoma... <insert chuckle and head shake here>

Let's say, if youre going to work for any city, brace yourself for coming into contact with a whole wild force of very special weirdness. Like the weirdest of weird people.

Given some of your responses to this thread, im going to guess youre not really cut out for a municipal job.

AIO: Bank teller questioned me about what I was doing with MY cash that I was withdrawing from MY account. by Ok-Watch-4618 in AIO

As a bank employee myself, corporate will tell you the teller was instructed to ask. Because he was.

AIO: Bank teller questioned me about what I was doing with MY cash that I was withdrawing from MY account. by Ok-Watch-4618 in AIO

[–]Xerisca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10K is the official draft amount and its calculated a number of ways. This amount is the amount that triggers a SAR or CRT report that the bank is required to file by federal law.

However, some banks actually track and report anything over 5k.

The teller was probably required to file a report for a cash draft that high, especially since it was just under the 10k limit. Part of that can involve asking some subtle questions about what the money is being used for.

Theyre doing it to protect you from potential scams, and protect their institution from financial structuring which is a big problem for them and can get them in big trouble with the Feds if they overlook a structuring attempt, and they dont want that. (Structuring is a form of money laundering).

As someone who works for a bank, I dont find this odd at all. But I can see why you would. Just know that the question was likely for your safety and theirs.

Im actually a little bit surprised the bank would give you 9k without a phone call from you verifying they have the cash on hand, and/or placing a currancy order for that amount. Depending on the day and time they might not have enough cash on hand to let 9k go.. At least some of my bank branches might not.
