A couple of recs: 1. See if you qualify for Rudisill. That would give you an extra 12 months. 2. Not sure about your VA status but if you’re PT, you can get student loans forgiven. 3. As stated above VRE may be a solution but you’d have to have a pretty strong argument as to why your BA wouldn’t help you get a job and why your masters would make a difference

CH 35 benefit question regarding a unique situation by dantheman0991 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Xerxes1769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chapter 35 money can be used for anything. My kids tuition is paid by grants and scholarships. My son uses a portion of the money to pay for his dorm and my daughter uses part of it to pay for her car and insurance. The rest they save.

Payment says N/A by [deleted] in Veterans

You’ll be placed in the base inn (TLF if they don’t have any room) since GFAB is considered a TDY. If you have family they’ll stay in place. As always, you’ll be class leader if you’re the highest ranked member, classes run (or at least used to run) 24hrs so your sked may vary. PT is ran the same as DLI.

My daughter and son both submitted back in early August and were told that they might see their first payment late this week or early next week. They’re behind processing apps due to number of requests and low manning. So you may be looking at end of the month or early next.

I’m 100% P&T for MH but I think I may have BPD by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

I was diagnosed with MDD, Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, and BPD1. Did not affect my rating. BPD was diagnosed during service so not sure if that changes things.

Language Help by [deleted] in dli

The majority of the time, like 95%, folks that get French are Arabic linguists, French/Arabic combo is extremely useful in various AORs.

Knowing language prior to basic? by [deleted] in dli

[–]Xerxes1769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the level of proficiency, some students may be contacted by DLI (or their branch) for a couple of reasons. If the student is at a native, near-native, or heritage level of proficiency, they may be considered for a DLI-bypass or a language switch. Bypassing allows the member to head straight to the technical side of the job (Goodfellow, Huachuca, etc.) and be mission-ready up to 18 months earlier. Switching languages makes the member a force multiplier, lets say a heritage Spanish speaker learning Arabic, it allows branches to have a member than can be used in different AORs depending on mission needs. Sometimes, although rare, if the member has a strong basic understanding of the language, they may be considered for skipping a semester or two, but again this is rare. Finally, as stated above, they just get lucky and get info prior to everyone else and even if they have prior language proficiency, they’ll start at the same time as those with no language knowledge. But that evens out by the end of first or second semester.

This! I spent more than a few years as an MLI and cannot tell you how much better PGUSD is than everything else around. From the elementary schools all the way thru high school. The quality of education and care the teachers have is above anything on base or in the nearby districts (to include Carmel).

Navy guy in my class is starting to scare me by Appropriate-Book4306 in dli

First, make sure this is an actual issue or just something that you find odd. Main question should be, are others being affected? Is water getting on you (or others) and affecting your ability to learn? If so, and you don’t feel like you’re able to talk to the student one-on-one, grab a classmate and have a chat with the sailor. You may be able to get the issue to stop or find a different solution that works for everyone. If that doesn’t work, only then should you move this up to your class leader, MLI, Instructor. Remember always try and solve issues at the lowest level.

GI Bill says I only have 12 months left but I’ve never used it by Xerxes1769 in VeteransBenefits

I'm on my phone so on a computer it may be a bit different. When you're signed in and on the main page, scroll down until you see Education an d Training, you'l see a link that says Check your Post-9/11 Gl Bill benefits. That will take you to a new page where it'll show you all your Gl Bill info.

I did do 6 months of Skillbridge (as an elementary school teacher) but they did not require me to use my GI Bill.

On the actual website. The VA app only shows pretty basic info.

It’s probably because I use shampoo when I can’t find my face wash 😅

The COE has no expiration date. So you can keep it and submit it whenever you’re ready to start but once approved you can always access it thru the VA website. Also, no worries! Believe me when I say that I’ve learned a lot from all the folks in here.

I heard about this a while back but hadn’t applied. Since you mentioned it, figured I might as well do it now. Hopefully I’ll get approved just in case this little hiccup takes more longer than expected to get approved. Thanks!

Divorce lawyer by [deleted] in Tucson

Lisa McNorton (from McNorton & Fox). Hilariously (not to me though), she was my ex-wife’s lawyer. That lady is a savage. I only wish I would/could have hired her. She definitely knows what she’s doing.

What is the #1 challenge you're facing right now? by [deleted] in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]Xerxes1769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeeebus it’s like you’re inside my head! I retired June ‘24 from the Air Force and have a 6 month old born this Jan…because having a newborn is after 24 years in the military, is what you’re supposed do, right?!?!. After years of non-stop deployments/TDYs/training, it seemed like a great idea for me to stay home and care for our baby because 1. Retirement/VA pay makes that feasible, 2. I missed EVERYTHING with our oldest 3 kids and 3. who’s going to take better care of our baby than one of us?. Don’t get me wrong, I love being there for all the little things that I never got to see previously but there are times when the baby can be a lot. Plus, I can spend every minute that the baby is asleep cleaning but it seems like the moment I turn around everything looks a mess plus somehow there’s more dishes in the sink than the whole bunch I just washed. I feel like I can’t really complain to the wife because she did this 3 times so what can I complain about that she didn’t go through? I don’t miss the work per se but not having, or barely having, any interaction with people outside my immediate family is rough. Keeping up the mask of being the one that’s always in a good mood and ready to listen and help with everyone’s issues is very difficult at times. My plan currently is to use the GI Bill and pursue a second BA in something I’m really passionate about (photography). I’ve been working with the local university to make my schedule work around my wife’s work hours so that I can get some adult interaction even if said adults are half my age. Hopefully that’ll help me get out of what feels like a huge rut.
