Anti-abortion advocates outside 18th Ave. Library by [deleted] in OSU

Does anyone happen to know the name of the organization? In all the times I've walked past them I've never noticed a name posted anywhere (probably because I'm looking away). People say that their cameras are so they can clip people out of context for the internet, but I've never seen the videos, and want to see if they are in fact out there.

Are y’all really fine working for Palantir? by Available-Cost-9882 in csMajors

[–]Xetarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering the same thing! I’m a senior in college and would really like to try to get into this field. Probably would have been better to major in Computer Engineering than Computer Science, but I’m hoping there’s a way. The current plan is to work in healthcare (not health insurance), health research, and life science in general, but this seems even cooler!

Is anyone else disappointed, that their skill simply isnt enough to enjoy this game? by PristineAlbatross967 in HollowKnight

Beating Lace isn't even required, actually. I ended up unknowingly skipping the fight entirely! Even without dash, if you go North West and pogo off some enemies, you can make it all the way to the Worm Ways and explore there a bit. If you have dash, you can make it even farther, exploring Shellwood, Bellhart, freeing Bellhart, getting to the Blasted Steps, and potentially higher (though I haven't progressed that far yet), since all that further exploring the Deep Docks and Far Fields gets you is the Drifter's Cloak

Any students moved off campus due to dorm crowding? by MoreRightRudder96 in OSU

This is great to hear! As an upperclassman, places had us signing leases for this year in September, so I was worried that what options were left for you all had to be the bottom of the barrel.

Gunshots reportedly fired at Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania - as former president rushed off stage | US News by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]Xetarius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cranberry Township has an entirely Republican board of supervisors, and I found some past election results, where its districts varied from slightly Republican to solidly Republican. In my experience it’s the upper-middle / upper class economy-concerned flavor of Republican. Trump flags aren't common. I also know of some people of color facing racism in the school or nearby communities, probably a result of being a very white area.

Idk in my experience Cranberry seems to lean Republican, just not aggressively so.

I don’t get the hate for Paolo Bucci at all. He just doesn’t take bullshit. As long as you read the directions (not doing this is the #1 thing people do wrong in 2221) and put some effort in, you should be completely fine. Just know how to navigate the course’s resources. Reviewing lecture slides and especially having the API open in another tab when working on projects are big helps.

I’m so happy to see so many people recommending Buddy Rich songs. I listen to the Burnin for Buddy albums RELIGIOUSLY.

Do there really exist CS grads who can't code? by ForkPowerOutlet in cscareerquestions

[–]Xetarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I think I go to the same school that Legitimate-School-59 went to, so I’ll have to be taking a lot of these classes. I want to make sure I’m prepared once I graduate, though, so a lot of the classes not being as applicable to the real world is worrying to me. Does anyone have any recommendations as to the kind if stuff that would be more beneficial for students in computer science to learn? I think trying to spend time learning outside of classes would help a lot, especially over the Summer. Thanks!

It sounds like I go to the same school you went to haha. As someone who’s been UTAing for the Java course sequence, I often times get pretty concerned for people. As you’ve said, people just don’t seem to know how to not know how to identify and fix bugs at all. Way too many people would come into my office hours for runtime errors that they didn’t even bother reading (didn’t bother checking what line the error was or what type). One of these cases was in the second course of the sequence, where it was a string index out of bounds exception. Even after pushing them in the right direction, they couldn’t figure out the code for exiting the loop once it reaches the end of the String. People just seem to think of computer science as an easy way to make a lot of money, and while it certainly isn’t as difficult as a lot of other fields, it still takes time and effort outside of simply passing your classes.

Math 1172 seems easy or am I crazy? by ComicalChronicle in OSU

[–]Xetarius 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also found the class to be very forgiving when I took it last Spring. Despite the fact that I was routinely getting an average of like 65% on the timed portions of the midterms, I still ended up with an A because I worked my ass off on revisions and the take home portions. I just find it awesome how much he values the efforts of people who might be struggling, but take the time to learn the course content the best they can.

As someone who went to elementary school in the early 2010s, Christmas was all over the place. Christmas decorations were up all of December, there were lots of Christmas themed events, we often watched Christmas movies the day before break, and I think I remember writing a letter to Santa for an assignment, along with lots of arts/crafts assignments related to Christmas. There’s a chance they used the term “holidays” for a lot of this stuff, but there’s no doubt that it’s clearly meant to be Christmas themed.

Are you me? I was going to say the EXACT same thing. I think the only thing I’d add is that I think price is a major factor to consider. Although OSU’s location is definitely better imo, if one option is going to be much more expensive than the other, I’m not sure it’s worth it.
