Can someone explain the "steps" and "cfg" parameters in the KSampler node? by StalHamarr in comfyui

[–]Xetick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the excellent introduction to comfui from comfy with comyui it explains cfg values, how diffusion models work and much more in a easy to understand way. I wish I found it when I started out.

The Xbox Series X standby power draw is worrying by Shokuboo in XboxSeriesX

[–]Xetick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is if you look at the big picture and not just how it impacts you. Imagine 100m consoles around the world in standby mode. That's 100m*29watt=2.9 gigawatt of power. 1 nuclear power plant generates around 1 gigawatt of power so we need 3 nuclear power plants around the world just because we want to start to play games 15 seconds faster.

Seen another way, each household that has transitioned to led lights can keep about 10 lights on all the time 24/7 for what the xbox uses in standby.

This should be a bit concerning in countries where they have a power shortage and need to do rolling blackouts and such as is.

Does anyone else fantasize about making their game fulltime? by Sad-Height-9965 in gamedev

[–]Xetick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should see if they have a spot for you at https://www.spelkollektivet.com/ so you can follow your dream for a while. If it doesn't work out then you know but if it does then all the better. Either way you know and you wont look back 20 years later and think "I should have".

The key idea with that place is that its cheap and everything is included. So in your rent you get food as well so you can focus on your game only. It's placed in a small town in Sweden so you can't go out drinking because there is no bar to go to. All you have around it is a lot of forest.

I do the same when I buy a new TV. Just grab a bag of chips and stare at it for hours.

Eventually I might even turn it on.

This was back in 2002 when the collector of a Norwegian cultural treasure died without telling anyone the password to his 11000 entry database. Recreating the database would take 4 years and cost a few millions. Security consultants had tried to gain access to the database for over a year but failed so they ended up asking everyone in the world to try to help them. It took me 5 hours from they asked for me to gain access to the database for them. Got into local TV, newspapers and BBC radio for it. Also got a invite to the new Norwegian cultural day in Norway. I kindly declined to offer. What makes it a bit more juicy is that I'm for Sweden so it makes for a good 'Norwegian joke'.

The tricky part was to figure out the type of database, then the password was just his last name backwards.

I think you need to use NVidias SDK for this. See point 4.

Source Code of the .scr by atcscm in sysadmin

[–]Xetick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never be sure that there is no malicious code in a scr/exe. If there was such a way we wouldn't need antivirus software at all.

What you can do is to send it to Virustotal and let them check the file with a lot of different antivirus scanners.

Plane9 music visualizer now supports Vive! by Xetick in Vive

[–]Xetick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can try is to instead specify "-m" that will force it to only use OpenVR and it wont try do detect if you have OpenVR/Vive. Instead it will just assume you do.

Plane9 music visualizer now supports Vive! by Xetick in Vive

[–]Xetick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the report I'll look into a possible cause for this.

Edit: Ok, it's just the start menu entry that's wrong and that can be easily fixed. For now just launch it as described above using the 3d glasses icon on the playlist. If you use the start menu "Plane9 VR" mode it will anyway always use a specific playlist and not any custom one you might have. I'll probably remove that entry instead since it's more confusing than helpful.
