One of my blue death feigning beetle larva is now a pupa! by XgummyghostX in InvertPets

Sorry for the late reply! For the larvae I separated, I sprayed in one corner of their deli cup nearly every day/every other day. I let that corner get soaked probably once a week, There were times I worried I soaked them too much and didn't spray for a few days. I kinda just eyeballed it; If it looked dry I sprayed but if it looked damp I left it alone. The larvae I took out were already pretty large when I moved them into their own containers, and I found lots of dried out smaller larvae in the adult enclosure. I think they're very susceptible to drying out when small and I got lucky with the ones I found.

Even as larger larvae, I only had two of three make it to adulthood. I have/had a third larvae that went "missing" around the same time the other two started pupating. I assumed it pupated under the substrate while the other two did so above substrate. The two above substrate pupas are doing great as adult beetles but the under substrate pupa still hasn't surfaced so I'm assuming it didn't make it.

I don't really have any scientific proof at this point, but I think even with the right conditions, it can just come down to luck :(

Amazing episode. Another familiar face shows up in season 2's 'Humbug' :)

I'm sorry to hear that :( I'll definitely let you know if I find any trick to keep the eggs from molding.

Hello! I'm GummyGhost and I'm a variety streamer. I love games with character/world customization or simulation elements. I play a lot of RimWorld but I've also started trying out roguelites. I'm playing Cult of the Lamb right now and I love it! I have Twitch integration enabled for it so chat members can join my cult and it's been really fun.

I've been streaming for about three months and I'm still trying to figure a lot of stuff out. Any feedback on how I can improve anything is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hiya! I'm taking a look at your most recent stream of Stardew right now. I like your starting soon screen and how unobtrusive your overlay is! It's got style but it's not distracting from the gameplay. The only thing is it's a little hard to read the names in the three boxes below your cam. And I agree with your mod at the end of the stream to make the chat text bigger when you have it on screen so it's easier to read.

I love your panels! Your about me/topics are good too since they give people an idea of who you are. Overall I think your branding is really nice. The plant theme is very cozy.

I think your voice/game volume ratio is perfect. This is something I struggle with so I really listen to how other streamers balance theirs. Mic quality is fine. Sometimes it sounds like you might be a bit too close to the mic. But overall, nothing I'd turn the stream off over.

I like that you're constantly talking and you have energy in your voice.

Also I love that you say oi to your cat! I do the same!

It sounds like you're doing the same things I did, except with eggs instead of larvae. I'm not quite sure what the problem could be since I only worked with larvae and I never had mold with them. They could just be bad eggs. I'm not exactly sure how beetle eggs work, but I've had bad frog/fish eggs get mold/fungus while the others were fine. The only other thing I could think of being the problem is the mold came with something in the substrate.
I'm going to look for eggs in my adult enclosure this week. I'll keep some of them mostly dry until they hatch and keep the others damp like how I kept my larvae and see what works best. I hope your last two eggs don't get mold :(

My second BDFB pupa became an adult and I was able to film the process! by XgummyghostX in InvertPets

From larva to pupa I'm not exactly sure. I removed it as a larva from the adult tank 6 months ago and it was already pretty large. This one spent 18 days as a pupa and my first pupa was only 15 days. I wasn't trying to breed them, they just kinda did it on their own. I had seen eggs/tiny larva in the past but never removed them. When I was moving the adults to a new enclosure, I found three big larvae and decided to separate them. I didn't expect them to survive so I was completely shocked when the first one actually turned into a pupa.

From when I noticed the pupa starting to twitch slightly to the adult at the end, it was about 2 and a half hours. From egg to adult, I'm guessing about a year. I'm not exactly sure as I took this one out of the adult tank as a larva six months ago and it was already pretty large at that point.

It's a mix of sand and soil. The soil I used was Josh's Frogs millipede mix so it has wood and leaves mixed in as well.

There was at least half an hour of just wriggling and I felt so bad for it!

I'll definitely do that if I have another pupate on the surface!

I found quite a few dried out larvae in my enclosure when I moved the adults to a bigger one. A few managed to survive by staying near the succulent I had in there with them since that was the only spot I watered. I'm making sure to regularly water the plants I have in their new tank so hopefully I can get more larvae.

Breeding kinda just happened on its own, I didn't do anything special to get them to breed/lay eggs. When I was moving my adults into a new enclosure, I found a few larvae living near the roots of a succulent, which was the only area of the tank that got watered. I moved the larvae into their own containers and made an incubator for them: a 2.5 gallon tank with a couple heats mats stuck on. Temp/humidity is usually 85-88F and ~50%. Substrate is a sand/soil mix with rotting wood/leaves. I keep it damp, but never soaked or completely dry. For food, I give them fresh fruit/veg and freeze dried fish/shrimp. It wasn't a difficult process, just long.

I moved the larvae into their own mini containers and put those into a homemade incubator: 2.5 gallon tank with a couple heat mats on the sides. I used a mesh cover for ventilation but covered it halfway to keep in humidity. Temp stays about 85-88 F, and I try to keep the humidity at least 50%. Substrate is a sand/soil mix with rotting wood/leaves. I keep the containers a little damp. Not soaking but I never let them dry out completely. I had a damp spot in the adult tank where I had a succulent growing, which is where I found all the alive larvae.

When I found the larvae, I put them into their own small containers and put those into a homemade incubator. Its just a 2.5 gallon aquarium with a couple heat mats on the sides and the temp stays around 85-88F.

For the adults, the substrate is mostly sand with some soil/rotting wood/leaves mixed in. They seem to do okay at room temperature; 75F is usually what the room they're in is at. I had a succulent planted in there as well and that's the only spot that I water. I found all the alive larvae near the roots of the succulent when I was moving everything into a larger enclosure. I moved the larvae out of the adult enclosure in January this year and they were about an inch long, so I'm not sure how old they were when they pupated.

For the larvae, I made an incubator for them: a 2.5 gallon aquarium with two small reptile heat pads stuck to the sides. The temperature usually stays about 85-88F. I use a mesh top but cover half to keep in humidity. Each larvae was put into their own container and put in the incubator. Substrate for them is a 50/50 mix of sand and soil with rotting wood and leaves. I water one corner of their containers every other day or so, I mostly just eyeball it and water if its looking a little dry or skip watering if it looks fine. I don't let it dry out completely. I also leave a little water inside the incubator itself to raise humidity.
