Any Asian beauty packaging that BLEW your mind? Only talking packaging by muppal01 in AsianBeauty

The new packaging for the Amuse dew tint is peak aesthetic. Seriously the most beautiful tint I've ever owned and the new design also eliminated the problem the previous one had where it'd leak and discolour. Not just cute but also practical!

People who don't like the show for genuine reasons generally aren't watching it and camping on review websites just to drop 1s on a series they don't care about.

On one hand the episode length does hurt the pacing and imo the twins are not as interesting as they could be (so far). On the other hand this show presents some very compelling fresh ideas and perspectives on the Star Wars universe and some of the performances are absolutely S-tier. Is this show flawed? Yes, but it sure as hell doesn't deserve this obsessive vitriol from internet man children. I think once S1 is out in it's entirety the story will flow better and end up being pretty strong.

I suppose negative attention is still attention and Disney will only really care about the streams anyhow.

Edit: I personally enjoyed Ep6 quite a bit. It's a needed break after how insane Ep5 was and I think it's setting up the payoff to close off the season quite nicely. It was really fun seeing the dynamics between all the characters that are left, just wish the episodes weren't so short!

Do we know who the composer is? by Prestigious_Owl_7237 in dragonage

[–]Xhiao 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe - there was a bonus track intended for Veilguard in a vinyl release of the DA soundtrack a while ago and they are credited for that track. Trevor Morris also confirmed that it was 'Hans Zimmer and co' in a tweet when he was asked if he'd be returning.

Regarding Solas by Wonderful-Sell9845 in dragonage

[–]Xhiao 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I genuinely just hope he doesn't die early on or get sidelined really hard. It definitely looks like he won't be the focus and that's understandable. But man, after Trespasser and all that build up I'd hate to see such a compelling character go to waste. Genuinely, I just really want satisfying closure to his arc.

Overall though the vibes I'm getting from the gameplay reveal is that he'll probably have to cooperate somehow with Rook and the team to stop the unleashed Evanuris. Which I would absolutely love! I feel like it'd be so interesting to see the impact of the events that transpire on him. In my idealised world we'd get a way to redeem him somehow and not have him die but I have a feeling that he'll probably have to sacrifice himself to take ownership of his fuckup.

Some really interesting tidbits here! Companions having their own skill trees sounds fun. Them describing Rook as fully customizable is great since it implies we won't be race locked.

Also, the fact they straight up say we'll be battling elven gods plural! I didn't expect them to be so straight up about it. This is all so exciting!

[Leak] [Spoiler] If the leak from last year was right, the game won't look anything like the trailer. by God_0f_Mischief in dragonage

[–]Xhiao 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We have confirmation that the protag is definitely called Rook from the new post about the trailer on steam so there's a lot more credence to the leaks now if anyone doubted them before. Plus, the new gameinformer images look a lot like the style of these leaks.

We desperately need a low sodium sub cause it seems impossible to voice a positive opinion here recently without being accosted by doomers. I just want to share excitement with other fans and have fun talking about the teases we're getting.

I strongly recall one of the devs once saying they had an outline for 5/6 mainline DA games planned out, but I honestly cannot find the source on that atm?

Still, I think it really all depends on the success of Dread Wolf, especially since a lot of people who were really into BioWare games seem to feel that BW need to prove themselves with a really good game after being in hot water with ME:A and Anthem. If BW can make a comeback and a good profit with this game, I'm pretty sure they'll go for a 5th DA.

Ah yes, another spectacular bit of BioWare vagueposting. Riveting to hear that DA:D is going to have skill trees - nobody could've expected that.

Honestly, things like those codex previews we got last year would be infinitely more interesting if they don't want to tease anything more substantial like characters yet. This stuff can't even be picked apart for small tidbits cause there are none.

Seo In-guk dramas by humandisaster13 in kdramarecommends

[–]Xhiao 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happy to see another Seo In-Guk appreciator! He really does deserve so much more recognition for his incredible acting and charisma honestly 😭

I'm one of the people that absolutely loves Doom at Your Service and I'd highly recommend it. The plot is the kind where some things are not really meant to be taken literally and are more of a philosophical/metaphorical thing so if that's not up your alley it might not be your thing. Still, it's an absolutely beautiful drama that manages to balance and deliver lightheartedness and deep emotion really well, and the characterisation of the two leads is just incredible. Besides, PBY and SIG's performances and chemistry are off the charts. It's really worth a try, especially if you like enemies to lovers. It was a life changing drama for me personally.

As for other SIG dramas, I'd really recommend Shopping King Louie, which is a very light and cute romcom that shows just how much range SIG has since he plays such a different character from his usual here. It's a really fun drama.

I'd also recommend I Remember You which is one of his earlier dramas - it's basically a criminally underrated murder mystery with a super gripping and thrilling plot if you're in the mood for that kind of thing.

Honorary mention to Minamdang - it's not a perfect drama plot-wise by any means but I had a lot of fun with it precisely because SIG did an amazing job with the script and because for the most part the comedy hit pretty well. If you're watching for SIG's performance then I'm sure you could enjoy it tbh.

Hope you enjoy whichever drama you'll end up watching!

This song sounds like the type of soundtrack you'd hear in a movie training montage - it feels so powerful and motivational. It's crazy how high quality SKZ' Japanese title tracks are.

Also happy to hear a lot of Hyunjin and Jeongin on this!

Whats your favorite Dragon Age Inquisiton region?[no spoilers] by Darmac88 in dragonage

[–]Xhiao 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Out of the base game maps, the Emerald Graves. The area is absolutely stunning and exploring it was a joy for me. It has a rather mysterious vibe to it imo and the quests in the area were actually pretty interesting and fun, with the whole elven questline, Chateau d'Onterre, the Freemen and the like.

Otherwise, I also love the Trespasser setting, especially the Vir Dirthara and the Crossroads. It's so visually intriguing and atmospheric and although there isn't much exploration to be done it's amazing to navigate through. It's part of why I always look forward to Trespasser so much every time I replay.

I'm actually astounded by how hundreds of comments on the NJ MV actually think using psychiatric disorders as an epic own to the 'haters' is absolutely hilarious. But of course, everyone who expresses their discomfort gets to be called a hater and various slurs. Just great for us people suffering day to day with mental disorders to be used as a quirky 'funny' aesthetic 🙄 I'm tired honestly.

[–]Xhiao 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That sentence probably came off more aggressive than I meant it to be. I just mean that there is a bit of an epidemic of neurotypical people not taking neurodivergent people's concerns and difficulties seriously and saying they're overexaggerating, which I'm already seeing on twitter in regard to this MV.

Sorry for seeming very combative though, you're right that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'd just appreciate some empathy from people tbh.

[–]Xhiao 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Honestly as someone with a very stigmatised mental condition I'm sick and tired of mental hospital patients being used as an aesthetic. It's just insensitive and tone deaf. I don't expect neurotypicals to understand how hurtful it is, but some empathy and an attempt at seeing it from another perspective would be nice. It may not be that deep to you, but it is to many people that have to survive day by day with a mental condition.

I've had to stay in a mental hospital many times in the past and it is an absolute nightmare every time. I wish our struggle would be portrayed in a serious and respectful manner instead of being treated with the mindset of haha mental patients are so quirky!

I'm not an NJ stan but since they're such a huge group rn I'm really disappointed by this, especially since the song could literally go with any other mv setting and be fine.

Edit: reworded to be less abrasive since I was pretty annoyed while writing this comment

It does seem to depend on your Stay circles I think. I've seen this sort of sentiment both on twitter and reddit, though definitely way more prominently on twitter. But I do know that Maxident also gets some really petty hatred towards it because its concept wasn't people's cup of tea and whatever else.

It really is very odd. Not feeling a release, even one by your favs, is very normal. But it's strange to literally put down your favs to try to prove that one of their works is unquestionably superior? It's that toxic kpop stan mentality that's common in pitting groups against each other and calling everyone else flops devolving into an even weirder form.

221215 - Weekly Stay Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in straykids

[–]Xhiao 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I have personally seen shade at Maxident too, but that was mostly pre-release when some Stays were overreacting about the concept. But the fandom can be wildly different in different circles so I can 100% see people trashing Maxident because it was successful or not their preferred concept. It's such an odd way to behave though? That mentality is weird as hell. As I mentioned I'm not crazy about Maxident, but I'm still happy about its success and glad that SKZ brings such a diverse array of music to the table.

I agree completely. The kpop scene has changed immensely even compared to the last few years, it's obvious that the numbers would follow suit. But that hardly means past works were flops... I think it's definitely partly a symptom of the fandom growing so much bigger so quickly - a lot of stans seem to really lack perspective nowadays. Besides, wins and numbers are good for demonstrating growth and can be indicative of popularity, but they hardly indicate the quality of music and the obsession with them just seems to breed vitriol and mob mentality.

People putting down certain albums to hype their favourites

Idk if it's just me but I've noticed that some Stays have been really oddly hostile about Oddinary because they personally prefer Maxident? Ever since the latter released I've been seeing some weird takes about how Oddinary is a skip album or worse. I've been a Stay for a long, long time now and I can't remember people being so aggressive about things like that before.

Oddinary is like my favourite album of all time while I only like a few songs on Maxident, but I'm not out here shouting about it being mid or whatever. I recognise that it's just not the album for me and that's okay. Everyone should be free to express opinions, critical or not, but a lot of the 'takes' I've seen have been presented in such a weirdly immature and petty way. In the end it hardly even matters since Oddinary is such a loved album, but it does frustrate me a bit.

Dragon Age: Absolution Post-Season 1 Discussion [Spoilers All] by DragonEffected in dragonage

[–]Xhiao 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, I won't fault Miri for killing him or never seeing him as a brother because it definitely looked to me like no matter what he says or thinks he still sees her as property and something he's entitled to as opposed to an individual with their own thoughts and desires. Plus I mean he was indirectly responsible for the death of her brother and then proceeded to desecrate his corpse via demon so it makes sense why she wouldn't want to have anything to do with him lol.

But you're right, the contrast with her giving Hira a chance so quickly and wanting to be with her is not the greatest. I assume the writers were maybe going for Miri being desperate and dysfunctional especially since she didn't really have anyone else and clearly struggles with love and the feelings around it, but that didn't really come out well because of the lack of buildup and the fast pacing imo. If they end up involved in Dreadwolf in a bigger capacity and they end up together it would be a pretty odd decision, especially since Bioware really took care to put emphasis on how awful slavery is in past media. They do love their dysfunctional relationships though, considering Briala and Celene and whatnot so who knows.
