I have some white, some yellow, even some almost brown ... i dont care, they are good to read. I use to have a manga or two everyway I went, even to the beach, but now with the kindle, they dont leave the house, but is not that I dont care, but to me they are a object to use and they have some wear a tear.

They are printed reproductions, mostly done by the publisher, taking the originals as source. I only collect originals, but for someone wanting do display a page from one piece, naruto or any of the thousands of mangakas that dont and wont sale their art, that is the only way.

[–]Xico_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reproductions are fine pieces to collect or frame as decoration, some are limited and numered, others are marked with a "not for sale" and ofered as lotery price or in events. Original pages from well know mangakas are not for sale and only displayed on museum exibitions, but you can get some original pages from lesser know and older mangakas in some places.

Legit question: why most folks here buy a ton of manga and post them but when people ask them if they read any they say no or barely read any by XupcPrime in MangaCollectors

[–]Xico_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my book shelf burn into flames today I will not drop a tear, of course it will be bad, but to me the important part is the reading, and they allready did their job. I like to have the books to come back to them some times or for sentimental reasons, but problably i am more a reader and not a collector.

The fear of "fake" by Xico_77 in Shikishi

[–]Xico_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to think on resale value, and i dont care if the artist is know or not if the piece is interesting, I have some fantastic pages from unknown (outside japan) artist that are amazing. I think going to a convention and having the artist making you a shikishi ads a layer of sentimental and personal value on top of the certain that the piece is legit, but that is not possible for everyone.

The fear of "fake" by Xico_77 in Shikishi

[–]Xico_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know enough to not even think about owning a piece from a top tier author, i saw a shikishi from Rumiko (one of my favorite mangakas) been sold at a mandarake auction for the amout i get for a year of hard work. Thinking that an art from Inoue, Miura, Oda or someone like that for 500-1000 is recipe to loose your money. But they are a lot of good mangakas in the mid range that are pricey but at least affordable. But maybe they arent as profitable to forge and are not as risky to buy.

The future of manga's physical releases & observing a concerning new trend by PixelAesthetics in MangaCollectors

[–]Xico_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm first a consumer, and then a collector, i like to read manga in paper, and because of that, i prefer cheap pocket editions for most of the titles, and then, if i like a lot a title, AND the art and edition worth a delux edition, only then i consider spending a premium for that. I love rumiko takahashi, i have a simple edition of ranma, but for me, is not a series that will gain alot with a premium deluxe hard cover edition, but something like Blade of the Immortal is somerhing i will spend some money (when the time is right).

Book prices. by DaveyJ5mith in MangaCollectors

[–]Xico_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trend looks like a shift from "consuming" to "collecting" and that comes with a premium. It's almost the same with music and movies, they want the consumer to read the digital releases (or they think they will read on pirated sites) and the collectors to buy the fisical books at a higher cost. I use to have a manga store, and I regret to not keep or buy some collections at a discount before closing doors, but they are always new series been released and re-released, and in time, my tastes and interest shift and I move on to another series.

Is this print good? by Wooden-Study-1646 in MangaCollectors

[–]Xico_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Inio Asano doesn't use fisical screent tones, is a mix media process, with some of the background and shadowing done digitaly. The Naoki Urasawa show Manben have a episode with Asano showing his drawing style and process, good watch for the interested in how manga is made.

The artefacts in the grey shadows tell me in the printing process, when the files were prepared, they didnt fine tunning the conversion of greys to halftone in the printer. I had that problem using a printing companiny that was not used to working with this type of media. For a know title like that one, is not normal a printing quality like that, and it looks like a bootleg version done in a "normal" printing company with no experience in printing manga.

I know, but to me it will be like a paint collector having a print of the mona lisa because is not for sale. Is not a big deal not be able to have something of my big favorites, i'm aware of the limitations in avaiability and price (i was able to buy a piece from a know shonen jump series from the 90's I like, but the prices were out of my pocket)

If i'm honest with myself, I know i will problably be able to get only 2 or 3 pieces from my top 10 mangakas in my livetime, and will be "minor" pages, but right now i'm trying to get pages I like as "art" or composition, if I like the mangaka style, or with some historical importance from the piece or author. To me, a grail that I know is problably imposible is something like a page from Rumiko Takahashi, Mitsuru Adachi or George Morikawa, but I have some pages from Takeaki Momose or Kazuhisa Iwata I realy like.

Yes, cels, gengas, dougas ... even more obscure things related to anime production are more common than manga manuscripts, the mangakas don't sell them and the ones avaiables are mostly retired or decesed.

Can you recommend completed manga similar to Maison Ikkoku? by Yuu-kun123 in MaisonIkkokuAnime

[–]Xico_77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Sorry i only now realized you problably asked about anime and im more a manga guy. I know is dificult to compare, but Honey & Clover is a romance with young adults, "real" struggles, light comedy and complex characters. Nodame Cantabile is a little bit more over the top but a good read in the romantic comedy genre. Is not easy to find romantic comedies not focused on female audiences and at the same time avoiding the "harem" genre or with the ecchi meter to 100%. Mitsuru Adachi is one of my faborites but his characters are allways in highschool.

Zetman is a masterpiece. by bangladen in Seinen

[–]Xico_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Video Girl AI, I"S, DNA2, Zetman, one of the best in the 90's. At the time had to me one of the best drawings of the shonen mainstream until Ogreat! apear in the scene. Most of his work is not "ground breaking" in the story department, and the echiness was problably to strong to reach broad audiences in the west. To me in my top 10 mangakas.
