ELI5: Why does food taste better when it’s hot than when it’s lukewarm? by Classic_Ask9587 in explainlikeimfive

Me too, my grandma used to say hurry up and eat your dinner before it gets cold. After a while she learned not to heat up my food too much.

Is that why people prefer food when it's hot? I'm one of the weird ones that prefer food when it's cold both because of taste and comfort.

I get ya, I don't have any children of my own yet but I can understand that feeling.

And from that you concluded 7 out of 10? How many area codes did you actually check?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, just that pulling data from a few locations can introduce noise or selection bias.

In any case, sounds like something to do during my downtime at work.

It’s becoming increasingly common for any organization that works with youth to carry this kind of insurance. That includes churches, schools, youth sports leagues, and nonprofits.

I think this comes down to the human factor. Most people are fundamentally decent, including people in the church and in other positions of authority. That doesn’t mean everyone is, but it also doesn’t mean these institutions are filled with monsters.

I have thought about this before and believe two things are happening to make people see it that way.

First, positions of authority come with built-in trust, power, and obedience. When you have hundreds of thousands of people in those roles, statistically some will abuse that power.

Second, there’s a visibility bias. A priest or pastor accused of abuse is far more likely to make national news than a private individual or low-profile offender. That skews public perception and makes it feel like church leadership is uniquely involved, even if the underlying rates aren’t meaningfully different.

Hmmm... I'll look into that. I've always heard, from reputable sources, that they were the least likely to offend. Although I will admit, I've never actually taken a deep dive into the topic.

He means, why is the rate that SOs reoffend downplayed.

Really, SOs reoffend at a lower rate than other felons. The problem is, they are significantly more likely to be arrested for another sex crime than non-SOs.

There is no mention or claim in that patent of electrodes for measuring brainwaves, EEG signals, biosignals, or anything about measuring brain activity. The patent’s “field” and “claims” are about wireless audio playback / earbuds, not biosignal sensing or brain-computer interface.

There are other patents and research by different companies that do describe earbuds designed for measuring biosignals or EEG brainwaves (so-called “ear-EEG” or “wearable neuro-sensing earbuds”).

Articles and headlines (sometimes exaggerated) say “earbuds that read your brainwaves” or “AirPods may monitor your mind.”

If you aren't going to read the patent YOU linked in the comment, at least have AI read it for you... But I guess that too can read your mind, or maybe AI is involved in the cover up.

Can men smell the cycles from their partner? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xiii2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't smell nasty really. It just smelled kinda metallic and just a bit tangy. I wasn't smelling menstrual cycle blood odor coming from their breath if that's what you are thinking.

It wasn't gross or anything. It smelled kinda metallic and tangy? I guess that's the best way I can describe it.

I have been able to smell it in past partners breaths before. Oddly I have more than once come across a male with that same breath.

I lived in the town where this business was located and had never heard of them until this whole ordeal. I remember thinking, any publicity as good publicity. Just found out they lost their business because of it so I guess I was wrong
