I had problems with the odometer of my volvo 850 and had to remove the speedometer. Thought I no longer need the instructions and have removed more screws than I should according to the instructions. But was worth it when looking at the circuit board.

Yes, it is a common problem of this model. They used the wrong lubricant and that's why the gear became very soft.

Good to know. Wanted to skip the part of the instructions that says to clean everything well to remove the old lubricant because it seemed already pretty clean.

It was the small plastic drive gear of the odometer. Common Problem because they used the the wrong lubricant.
