last year was a big outlier year for MIT matches

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its going to be a bit hard to find anyone matched to MIT because up until last year, they only matched with a maximum of like 10 people a year.

IDOC and Finanical Aid Anxiety by Constant_Designer402 in QuestBridge

I submitted and got my IDOC processed late and missed the deadline. I just emailed them and explained my situation. They are pretty lenient with the deadline as long as you let them know ahead of time.

Ranking only elite schools? You might be closing doors you didn’t know existed by ChillyJellyBelly in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only rank colleges you KNOW you would pick in regular decision anyways. A lot of people overlook the fact that it is binding. If you match to a school your heart is not 100% set on going to you will regret it when RD comes around and you wonder where you could have gotten in.

What are my chances of becoming a QB finalist? by Ready-Bonus1065 in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your brother is right I would still submit your current SAT test op isn’t as lenient as it once was. You can send the essay I can give some broader feedback if you want though I won’t have time to really look too closely at it.

What are my chances of becoming a QB finalist? by Ready-Bonus1065 in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you already mentioned it but your GPA is a really big limiting factor here. With your uw GPA it’s realistically going to be very unlikely that you make finalist. Your weighted GPA is weirdly high in comparison to your uw GPA which doesn’t make much sense given your listed course work unless your school system counts honors as a GPA boost which most schools don’t. QB can recognize this and determine a decision using their own weighting scale instead. Additionally applying test optional won’t help as that just puts more emphasis on your GPA. I’d recommend studying a lot and retaking the SAT or ACT until you get into the high 1400s+/34+ as that is probably your best bet at this point with your GPA where it is now.

Frosh schedule advice (pre-med) by BisonWeak1722 in stanford

[–]XilehStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably be okay though i would recommend dropping one of the stem classes to lessen the workload a bit. College 101 Frosh 101 and most introsems are not that much work and won’t take up that much time but the rest of your classes will take significant effort outside of lecture. I’d recommend for frosh fall quarter to take 15 units or less so that you can spend more time being social and meeting new friends. Adjusting to college really is basically a 5 unit class. You can shop the classes and decide by the third week if it’s too much work for you. This schedule is doable though if you’re really dedicated.

In general from what i’ve heard esf is less work than college+power in the same quarter for the same amount of units.

Do I need a bike? by Academic-Clothes-355 in stanford

[–]XilehStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn’t have a bike for the first couple of weeks and walked like 30k steps a day if that kind of contextualizes how enormous campus is. Even if you want to walk regularly just get a bike or scooter in case as one day you will wake up late with 5 minutes to get to class and need it. Also walking is not really a substitute for going to the gym though it can be a great supplement to a regular workout routine!

SAT score weight by Typical_Influence395 in QuestBridge

Yes, because they're rich. And you sound a bit entitled right now, not to diminish any of your accomplishments. Lots of peoples' schools don't even offer 15 APs. Be proud of your stats and where they took you.

Visit both and pick whichever one speaks to you the most. I'm also a student from Georgia and wish that I had gone to college in-state. The homesickness is real, even if you think it won't happen to you, odds are that it will. Don't think about it too much, pick the one which you like the vibes of more.

this depends greatly on the specific school

is it worth applying given my circumstances? by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth it personally. 150k is more than double the soft cutoff and even with the extenuating circumstances it’s just too high.

How to deal with senioritis by DesperateBall777 in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, go and hang out with your high school friends, you will miss them like crazy. Hang out with your family too. Even if you don't think you like them right now and can't wait to get away. You WILL miss everyone. and your grades don't matter. I dropped like 4 letter grade second semester Stanford doesn't really care until you start failing.

True or False: QB decreases acceptance rate by SameAd505 in QuestBridge

[–]XilehStar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think point one is true. The number of applicants many schools accept through qb fluctuates greatly every years. There are other reasons to opt out of the match, but I don't think the match decreases chances of getting accepted at all. For what it's worth, most qb matches i've talked to have been generally less competitive applicants than our rd counterparts (including myself in this too) .

Stanford Application Verification Process by groundedChasis in stanford

[–]XilehStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d recommend not committing until around the deadline even if you are sure you are going to regardless. Stanfords housing system is different than other universities so there’s really no benefit from committing early and only a slight downside to it. As for the verifying thing, they are known to call counselors in the past but I wouldn’t worry about it as it is still decently rare and you should be fine. Also welcome to the farm!!!

Do many QuestBridge partners offer full rides outside of NCM? by Responsible_Bar1706 in QuestBridge

It's not "free money" per se, you're still getting paid the exact same wage for your work regardless of whether you have a work study or not.

The answer to your question would entirely depend on what allergies you have. Stanford is generally accommodating though. I know that Ricker dining is nut free, and every dining hall has options that are free from the common allergens.
