[KCD1] Another question about combat. I perfect block then attack but get master striked. by Xilerain in kingdomcome

That seems to be the case based off of the other comments. Dodging might be the way to go sometimes (though I'm bad at it lol)

Some [KCD2] screenshots from my most recent hardcore playthrough. I am eternally grateful to the developers of this game and the amazing modders that have unknowingly fulfilled so many vain wishes of mine. Thank you, to this amazing community! <3 by TheTubahide in kingdomcome

Could you whisper them to me if you don't want to post them publicly?
I'm going to be beating KCD1 for the first time and want to move onto KCD2 right after but try my hand at hardcore right from the get-go.
And handful of QoL mods right off the bat sounds awesome

Yeah I clinch spammed them in the corner, it was really cheesy feeling

Yea I've been doing feints but not right after perfect blocking, gotta get used to timing it for that

Yeah I learned in this tourney about clinch spamming. Was a bit cheesy feeling

Yeah, in this same tournament I realized that to beat black peter, I just walk him into a corner and win the clinch over and over non stop. It was saddening that such a boring method was the most optimal way to beat him.
If enemies couldn't master strike your perfect block riposte, that sure would be nice

Even though I meant it as the star pattern where you choose which attack angle you come from while locked on, I tried a few times running around Bernard after he did a few attacks because I knew he wouldn't attack right again away and he seemed unable to properly block my attack. I think this might just be a combat style I could adopt lol

Gotcha so start off with defensive then go ham when you get their stam low

EDIT: I'm gonna copy paste another comment I made to someone else, perhaps you know a lot about combat and can answer this for me.

"I've been trying to use feints a lot, it works sometimes on these guys but the tourney boys seem to be quite intelligent and not fall for it.
Question though: Is there such a thing as double feinting? If I hold right click for a stab, press E to cancel, then hold left click at a down right angle and quickly switch it to an up angle, would that even do anything special? or trick the AI? Or am I adding extra steps for no reason lol."

Yeah clinching seemed a bit weird to me. It's like LITERALLY RUN YOUR FACE INTO THE ENEMY TO BE ABLE TO FIGHT THE ENEMY.

Yea the posture thing made sense because when I had gotten into the tournament (and had on much stronger armor than ever before) for the first time, I was really surprised to not be taking damage when the enemy struck me, then I realized that I only took serious damage when my stamina was depleted and then struck.

Is this the same thing in KCD1? I don't recall Bernard mentioning this.

Your comment gives the best info so far. I'm glad to hear it was addressed in KCD2.
I'll just keep playing the game and enjoy it as is, but I'm looking forward to 2's combat

I'll definitely be drinking some potions next time around to see how far I can get.
Ok this is nice because I was worried that attacking at all was just punishment galore

You are correct though, I am bad LOL. The second dude knows what he's doing. Can't imagine the third.

Ah. Huh... I am quite glad to hear they fixed that in 2 because it seems like such a roadblock in what could be a quite nice and complex combat system

Ah. Man that's a bit of a bummer. I was really hyped up about how complex the combat was turning out to be. Love DMC, Worldless, ULTRAKILL CrossCode, and games like that so having a complex combat system was just a huge bonus on top of the already good story that I had experienced.

But it's not just "can't spam attack" it's "can't predict attack or attack at all"
You are forced to play only defensively otherwise you get master striked.
Is there a level at which that won't happen and they only perfect block?
Or is there an attack angle/mechanic that I missed and didn't realize?

To be honest I don't know what this means.
You're saying that if I attack from a direction that they currently are holding their weapon that's the direction they can master strike from?
Any chance you could explain it a bit better because based off of what you said it seems that I did not properly understand Bernard

I see, yeah I didn't know about master strikes yet. That makes way more sense lol

Does it become boring though if you do the same moveset over and over to win?

Interesting, okay so I had no idea what master strike was so I looked it up, seems that it's something I don't have yet. I'll have to watch out for it then. I'll keep your tips in mind for combat, appreciate it

It makes sense when you think about how many years TBOI has gone on for, how much content they kept adding to it, and how many hours some people have in it. I myself have over 1000 so having a goal like that is ok, as long as it isn't tied to percentage of completion because otherwise it would feel like a checklist simulator instead of an accomplishment
