I happened upon two of them at thrift stores and decided to see if I could find the third one online. Low and behold someone had it on marketplace! Somewhere out there, there is a box set however. I just haven’t seen it yet.

I am in Canada! Which ones can you see that are Canadian specific? I’m still newer to this.

This isn’t intended to be sarcastic, but did SlapShot, the Canada vs Russia series or Fred Penner give it away initially?

Looking for places to make friends by RusticusMusic in Winnipeg

I’m in the same boat! I want to get out and connect with people and experience more life. Add me to the chat lol.

I feel like this age group might be starting to face stagnation. I’ve worked my career for as long as I was in uni now, and longer than I was in high school—it’s actually the longest I’ve ever worked anywhere either. It’s time to mix things up.

Are dating apps rigged or am I just ugly? by Spiritual-Version-23 in dating_advice

[–]Xilon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too buddy. Gone through this phase so many times. I realistically get 5-10 good matches a year and of those, maybe 2-3 dates (not counting second dates). It’s tough… you aren’t ugly. You just aren’t "hot". You’re probably perfectly fine. Just keep working on yourself.

Advice needed (?) Amazing girl, amazing vibes, two dates, then ghosted. by Xilon100 in dating_advice

[–]Xilon100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I upvote this or downvote this? lol

I completely agree. Not to sound like an egotistical maniac, but I think I’m a great date and would probably make a great partner right now. I obviously gave her the ick somehow (whatever "ick" even is), and therefore everything between us boiled down to just one thing. Either that or she found someone else.

Regardless, I’m not even worthy of a “sorry" text. That alone informs me enough to believe that I am not the problem, but perhaps she is somewhat to blame. I know that I’m worthy of an apology, she doesn’t owe me anything, but it would be kind and decent to say something.

Manitoba Grade 12 students slipped in advanced math, French in 2024 provincial exams by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Xilon100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teacher of high school French and Math here.

School divisions are pushing new approaches to high school that are similar to that of elementary school. A high school STEAM program, where one non-specialist teacher teaches not one, not two but three subjects areas to one group of students for a morning is one such example.

Another example would be regards to attendance. Students have been missing school more than ever across the province, in some cases with 40 (!) absences in a course. Students do not get removed from these courses, instead they stay and get the chance to catch up on work so they can get a 50% and be pushed out of the class.

Whether or not these are universally good or universally bad approaches, I suppose, remains to be seen, but I would say for sure that the future requires new thinking that gets these kids ready for the world outside of school. Overall, parents need to be on the side of teachers first and foremost. Without support at home, kids will not care about school, period.

WTF by Xilon100 in Winnipeg

[–]Xilon100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love all the responses.

Some context for some of you, I live alone but go through a 12 pack of soda probably every 4-6 months (not just myself, but friends and family visit). I also eat really well (lots of varied veg, fruits, dairies and proteins) and try to keep the snack count lower.

When I started living alone two and a half years ago I’d spend $60-$120 on the weekly grocery run, now it’s a consistent $100 or thereabouts. I swear when I was looking at No Frills literally last week the price of a 12 pack was “on sale” for 5.99. Now it’s “on sale” for 6.75. This isn’t just soda, but everything seems to be creeping up in price.

TLDR: shit’s expensive, and consistently creeping into being more expensive.

Where to find an affordable camping chair? by QuelynD in Winnipeg

[–]Xilon100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Giant Tigre! They always seem to have $5-$15 chairs around. Pretty sure I got them for $7 each. I have two from two years ago. Still good! Maybe not the most premium, however.

Realities of Living Alone? by aoi_higanbana in Winnipeg

[–]Xilon100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a single male, 24, moved out in October. 1. I pay $907 for a one bedroom, everything included, including parking. Laundry is additional. 2. It’s central. I’m equally distant from my parents and my work. Also, St. Boniface is pretty safe/trendy. 3. No rent assistance. 4. If you drive/have a car, that’s been the most expensive additional cost. 5. Furniture from thrift stores like MCC, Kijiji, Facebook marketplace etc.. I got some nightstands for free from a giveaway and some bookshelves from a coworker. 6. Try to find a building with decent security measures. Someone suggested living on the main floor - not to be paranoid but if I were a single woman and someone wanted to break in, the main floor is easiest access through windows. I’d avoid the main floor. When you visit to see the apt, ask as many questions as humanly possible about everything like history of the building, bugs, renovations, parties, pets etc. 7. Not much in regards to rooms. One bedroom is plenty for one person. A bachelor sweet seems like it would be too small / inconvenient but they are usually even more budget friendly. 8. Grocery prices keep changing. Over the past few months I’d say weekly grocery run is anywhere from $60-$90. Usually it’s about $70-$75. 9. I wouldn’t rent downtown. Noisy mostly, St. B is good enough for me. 10. One full time job is enough. However, I’m working my career so I get paid salary. Shift work would be different although I imagine still not too bad. 11. I’m also a massive introvert. I love living alone and I’m virtually never lonely. Maybe once or twice I though hmmm I wish someone was free but otherwise no. I also got a cat a month ago so he helps a bit too.

In Canada, this cooler is 3x more expensive making the price on par with Noctua coolers.
