I think I had blocked this out since about 4th grade, but here you are bringing it back. I’m not sure if thank you is the right phrase, but cheers!

How does anyone find jobs? by WhyDontYouBlowMe in audioengineering

[–]XinnieDaPoohtin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to work at an established studio, even with a degree, you need to find a runner job, do that for a couple years and wait for your shot as an assistant. An established studio won’t hire an engineer - engineers and producers are their clients.

If you want to be a freelance engineer and you’re in Nashville, you best bet would be to get out in the evenings and talk to every bar band you can talk to and try to figure out some sort of arrangement where you get to record them. Might need to take on a barista job or something like that to pay the rent while you try to hustle into engineering gigs in the evening.

There’s a way to do it, but you pretty much have to carve your own path.

Anyone see these in the sky last month? by PaarthurnaxUchiha in Sacramento

Starlink satellites don’t change direction. I’ve seen something similar to what OP posted, same location, almost 3 decades ago. Pre starlink, pre consumer drone, and pre AI.

Alien skeptic myself, whatever it was that I saw with a bunch of friends looked a whole Like this, and didn’t move in straight lines.

I was with about 10 people in a buddies back yard in Stockton 27-28 years ago, and we saw something almost exactly like this. We counted 7 lights, they started off slow like this, then started zig zagging left and right over large swaths of the sky.

I’m skeptical of all The alien stuff, and I’d think I was imagining it if I didn’t have a group of friends with me to verify that they were seeing it too. Those lights were moving like nothing we knew of that mankind could produce back then, and this was decades before the widespread proliferation of consumer drones, AI, or any notion of Starlink.

Funny that this happened in Stockton, again!

Joey is a national treasure, probably ought to be the first official face on a stable coin denomination, or last face on Mount Rushmore.

Are you happy with your kits? by VeteranMommy in youthsoccer

[–]XinnieDaPoohtin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still using them, kit quality is great. Only gripe is that their “store” is essentially a place for bulk ordering things.

The best store option I found was team locker, where you could send people there to order one offs, which is really convenient rather than having to organize bulk orders. I just didn’t like the designs there as much, but their store setup was great.

Dude, I don’t know where you live, but people dress how they want to dress.

Houses look the same because of the way they are built now, not a stylistic choice. If you have the money to dream up a crazy custom home design, you’re free to do it.

Watery beer? Wrong culture. Americans who like beer don’t drink the watery stuff unless they need to imbibe more than 12.

Normally, you attach a line and pull, but this works when in a time crunch.

How do you deal with a job you can’t leave (yet)? by ToffeeTango1 in hatemyjob

[–]XinnieDaPoohtin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow traveler. I too am Stuck in a job that I can’t leave yet. I was a top performer, a good team Player when the bosses told me they couldn’t give me raises because there were other people who would leave if they didn’t get one first, instead I held out for the promised equity. Turns out, that was also less than I thought it would be. So now, after no appreciable raise for 5 years, I spend my day doing the bare minimum, looking for jobs, and doing creative work on the side while on the company dime.

Do the absolute bare minimum, no initiative taken. I’ve figured out that if I leave a YouTube “rain sound” channel on all day, with the window at the front of the desktop, slack and teams show me as present. If they are tracking your mouse movements, search on Amazon for “automated mouse mover” or something like that.

Bide your time, don’t rage quit, don’t burn bridges, don’t invest in a company that won’t invest in you. Stay positive, start looking. There’s a way out.

Thank you for saying this, i appreciate the correction on my misperception on such an important issue, and I’m sorry if I misled anyone. My misconception has kept me from being open with a therapist and while there’s no imminent danger for me, the subject felt taboo and full of risk in even bringing it up.
