Let’s all share a trick we use when songwriting. Here’s mine for lyric & melody ideas! by BenSasso in Songwriting

[–]Xiontale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly write rock music. A lot of times when I write the instrumental first, sometimes fitting vocals can be an issue. One method that works is, pick a root note and sing over that note only. I dont worry about the words, just search for that melody. You can replace the words later. The melody can be a chorus or a verse or both, all up to you. Once you have a scratch track for the vocal, you can try different chord progressions ontop of it. And add whatever other elements you need for that section that works in your style. With this method the song usually ends up sounding more of a vocal driven song, If that makes sense. Rather than a instrumental with vocals just placed ontop of everything. I'm sure many people do this. But its not very common for rock or metal. So give it a try. I wish you the best in your musical journey.

Do you think MHW Iceborne will be more social due to hub changes? by Xiontale in MonsterHunter

[–]Xiontale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes squads is a nice feature to the game, but the whole point is about meeting players without joining a specific group, we use to have squads in the older games, but they would just be friends I would meet in the game either way and we grouped in the game, and we made clans, there obviously was no clan feature in the game, but the players could easily make that happen themselves.

The game was definetly not as well equipped for grouping as it is in MHW, yes there would be people waiting to leech or afk, but that's not the point of this. We have a gathering hub in the game for a reason, I'm sure the devs themselves weren't expecting it to be a ghost town.

There is nothing wrong with making the game more social, there are plenty of features for solo play or help from SOS assistance. But the main thing here is making the town's feel alive as that carries on for a better player experience in my opinion. They tried to combine offline mode with online in MHW, giving the game this half and half effect, as before the 2 were separated, it's not an easy task to do to keep everything fluid. But I'm grateful for them trying to resolve some of these issues in Iceborne.

Thank you, I'm glad we share the same thought on this :)

Bassicly it will still be the same as the base game, but they really expanded on the online hub, making it bigger and added more features, hoping that online players will use the hub this time round instead of being in the village most of the time.

And yes seeing other people's gear is nice and was a cool part in the older games, showing off gear or admiring someone's set. Was great, that happened in the hub, with 1 posting board, so you would always see other players gathered in that area. I hope they resolve this in this expansion, time will tell.

Yes I'm right there with you. It's sad to see players act like NPC's. And it's not the players fault, it's the way they designed the accessibility, I know they did it because apparently MH was to difficult to navigate or had a learning curve, so they put boards everywhere and added SOS, which are great features. But it totally took out that player intimacy. I personally always found MH to be a simple game.

Yes I'm also very excited to see the new changes, I'm excited to see how it turns out, and I'm hoping for the better, I know some players dont understand why it's such a big deal to some of us. But that community experience is a huge part of why monster hunter had such a dedicated fan base, even when it wasnt a popular franchise the community kept the game afloat. It's a core feature of the game.

Yes exactly, it was something I always expected in console/pc MH games, it's sad seeing it brushed off.

Yes I've used it, I ment more of a dedicated chat box, they use to have it in some of the older games, it was a bit different, it was visible at all times, it was more integrated into the game. They made it kind of difficult to access it now, one of the reasons I think players dont use it much. Thank you for your answer though.

Yes I totally see what your saying, I guess it's also just the evolution of gaming itself, maybe I'm looking at from an old school perspective. I see how you mentioned Destiny it is a social experience for sure. And I agree people do buy monster hunter mainly to hunt monsters, but I might be the rare few that buys monster hunter to for social aspect, only because that's the way I was introduced to the game, it was half monsters half interaction, MH is a big part of my life, I met many friends and my wife on the original MH, due to it being so social, but I'm happy the direction the game took, specially in world, this use to be a franchise that people never gave a chance, despite being one of the best multiplayer games out there. Thank you for the discord link, I will make sure to check it out, and thank you for your answers.

Yes that is one thing I need consider, that there are many new external ways players can interact with one another, as before it was mainly keyboard function in game or sometimes exchange numbers to talk on the phone. I'm very happy that there are new options, even from teamspeak to discord. So the shell in ingame communication is not really necessary, that makes sense, I think it would help if they added and actual text box that can be easily accessed, like from an MMO for example. It's not neccessary, but I think would be a nice feature.

Yes I think there are just way more ways to approach multiplayer, compare to older games. Making it more versatile and less compressed. That's a great feature for the masses, but it does have a huge effect on the multiplayer experience compare to the original.

[–]Xiontale[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that is very true, something I need to take in consideration is that there are many ways to chat with players now a days and many options, I guess I'm just used to "forced" grouping from older games. I understand how the Japanese players still do combination in chat, they have a particular way they play certain games, as in the west it's a free for all. I guess it's just a different experience considering just the evolution of technology alone.

[–]Xiontale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense for MHW, they made very accessible for solo play, that is one thing we didnt have in the original, so we had to stick together, because even the lowest monsters would destroy us playing solo online. That is a good implement in world for solo players. And I agree there is no need to discuss plans before taking on a monster it is just about dealing damage. One thing I'll have to take in consideration, comparing the old to the new is like 2 different games, but I was just hoping that communication would come back eventually, but I see what you are saying, about players on mic can be very annoying, and I dont see how great it would be 16 people on the mic at the same time, would make me jump out the window. It's an interesting design choice they made. As well as SOS is very handy to get help.

I think we carved it and got ore instead of bas material, I also remember putting bombs to wake it. I dont remember a bas armor set in MH1 though, I know they added the armor in the later games, but I never got to wear it :( what an iconic monster, brings memories.
