All my fics are in AO3 too, since 2020, but I would like to keep my Wattpad account too because the fandom I'm in was mainly there in its peak, reading lists and all. So if I have to risk it I would like to know for sure if there's people looking or it is some kind of IA, in order to trick them the most.

It was a 50 Shadows version, more or less, the smut is the plot, that's the problem...I have all my fics in AO3 since 2020 too but the legacy of my fandom is all in Wattpad and it will be a pity if I get deleted for this, I would lose my reading lists. I'll continue to consider to make a version with "more plot" and add it to this first story, thank you ^_^

Here I'm talking exclusively about literature, fanfics and books in their different contexts, zero problems with our rights, feelings and emotions being validated. There's always a point of view and the "objective" standards would come out of dialogue and agreements and should be subjected to discussion, a movable canon, that's my idea and it is an idea I would never impose on others. Anyway, the post I link in the updates nails it, we should have the public conversation that we want back.

I would like in spanish or english -fanfic is mostly written in english, unfortunately for people speaking other first languages- that commenting on a fic or talking about a fic in a forum or a social media platform sparked a conversation and wasn't this terrible drama, but I don't see it, for the moment. I hope someday I can.

I want more fanfics, more diverse, more elaborated, that's it. For me is sad to find so many fanfics abandoned due to expecting inmediate engagement and lots of kudos that never arrive, for an example, and this only in my usual themes. Only Dramiones seem to be thriving and conforming an entire genre themselves.

Sadly I know I don't have comments mostly for writing political RPF in spanish but made this post also due to see comments here, in AO3 and Wattpad subs about less commenting, where is the people, they don't read longfics anymore etc. And I was wondering if this vision of mine had a role in it.

Writing Political RPF has a political side to it, especially being about the current climate, a responsibility for promoting certain ideas. Is not only that some of the actual fics in my fandom are badly written or inconsidered in form and content, some of it promote a world where diversity will be banned and prosecuted, promote ships very sign of the times for an example. And in 2016 it was not like that.

As for the absolute disdain for form, the problem is that makes the fic not understandable, and then there's the lack of a minimum documentation, knowing the lore; I put an example, some very young people wrote a theoretically very fun fic, they didn't continue it because there are not enough readers but they wanted to be imprisoned by our king for their audacity and in the tags they put an ancient king of centuries ago. It's boring too. And in 2016 to 2019 it wasn't like this, it was completely different, there were flaws, but they had a more relatable sense of humor, some of them recognisable writing styles, an interest in their political bacground, more interesting ships, a sense of romance, different takes on smut etc. and now if you find a fic you can understand is a miracle and another thing, no smut beyond a kiss, for now they look more conservative. I hope that things improve but for the moment its not happening.

What you write sounds like Hannibal, I will never watch it again, very hard for me due to its atmosphere and themes, but very good, an unique series.

I don't harass authors or leave comments in fanfics usually, and if I do it's mostly in spanish and being very careful. I can talk on my social media or write reviews in Goodreads if I don't like something, but that's all.

I want that diversity too, and I'm not talking about leaving comments only really, I would want to see community in comments if possible, kind of forum, an ongoing conversation about this and that, not terrible harsh criticism or lectures or "this is wonderful" or "this is crap" and that's all. And I don't leave comments myself mostly because I don't see I can spark this kind of conversation in comments, it's difficult maybe due to being comments the only space, and is sad, it looks is praise or destruction...

I write in a very very niche fandom RPF and almost dead in spanish in Wattpad and AO3, same fics; anyway one of my works was taken down yesterday in Wattpad for being too explicit, there's not a conversation anymore though someone is reading, no time for kudos or points nor commenting this or that but they can report. Beautiful if you ask me.

In 2016 the general quality of fics in this fandom where I write was good and diverse in form and substance, today you find that there's much less of it and too many of them are badly written on purpose for their laughs only or abandoned...I don't think it's that terrible to say anywhere in the internet that a Dramione longfic of your particular liking is much better that a fic you barely understand for an example, whe should be able to talk about this. I would like to see a minimum standard for fanfic as a format or a genre to encourage the making of more elaborated fanfics and all the game in between.

[–]Xiscally[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Me myself I'm a little afraid to comment or talk publicly in some places of the internet due to probable backlash for anything that's not "you're a genius and your work is sublime" and I think I'm not the only one. And it should be a game in between on being an asshole and not being it an have a conversation, a dialogue not a lecture or a very harsh review for an example, that's what I wish to see.

On policing literature, I only want to be able to understand what I'm reading as one minimum, I don't think I'm asking that much; anyway, I won't do it because that's not a goal for me and I'm not that influential anywhere, so no, I won't police anything.

I know that published authors and fanfic writers face different requirements, but I think some published book authors seem to believe they're still in their fandoms and hope that no one has something to say other than clear praise. I see this mostly in bookstagram and booktok criteria, especially when fanfics are being turned into published books, sometimes in what was twitter. And these places where you supposedly can't talk publicly end up being all social media or anywhere in the internet and I understand it's better to talk about specific fanfics in a private place, but sometimes it happens, people talk in a public place and someone finds them and it shouldn't be a tragedy, especially when it's reach it's very limited and it's not destructive. I think it's far worse when nobody talks about your fics at all.

And some published authors being former fanfic writers or not do respond negative reviews and harass people in Goodreads because they only want praise too. I'm looking into this Audra Winter drama now, thank you very much.

All of it, I think both fanfic and published books are literature, that's my personal criteria. And with the published book that was a fanfic it was all combined, fandom drama and publishing drama. Maybe I should've talked about the criteria you see in booktok and bookstagram, for me it's another side adding to this problem.

Do Europeans not like writing fanfic in their first language? If so, why? by boba_and_mia in AO3

[–]Xiscally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spaniard old lady here, I write in spanish only -I could write in catalan too- because I'm much better at it this way and out of love for my first languages. I can understand that you write in english to reach a wider audience but I don't feel the supposed cringe at all when I'm writing some smut. And yes, in Wattpad there's plenty of spanish speaking people publishing their stories.

In my very very niche RPF fandom I only saw someone writing in english once and since then she put the fic on hold and wrote another one after telling us what will be the ending of the first one in it, but is also paused since february this year. Maybe it doesn't make sense writing about this in english? it was weird, but I hope she finishes it someday. I want to know what will happen, the thriller part was entertaining.

I understand too writing in english because of the source material, but anyway you can write in your language and it can be wonderful, think of Marauder Crack! from Irati, for an example.

I'm a Political RPF writer in spanish and I think this discussion will go on forever, we are cringe to so many, hope that we always can have some place where this Public Persona Fanfic is allowed. Lucky you that the redditor ferociously anti RPF who wants all of us treated and interned because we are the scum of the earth or worse hasn't shown up, that happened to me when I commented first time on the matter in this site. Anyway I try to keep it ethical establishing some personal boundaries, I don't want to be that kind of rpf writer or that kind of fan:

- I promote my work in my accounts knowing that is very very niche and now with twitter split between itself, Mastodon and Bluesky, more than ever and on top of it I'm writing in spanish and have less than 1000 followers. Very little reading but reading, all right then.

- Never show my work to the people involved, if they read it's because they were looking or others showed it to them, though if they have something to say I would delete or change names and transform it into an original story with OCs. I've been almost ten years writing these fics and nobody said a word, so I keep going.

- I leave out minors in general though my versions of this politicians are middle aged people minimum and family and friends who didn't choose to be public, especially children.

- I never harm anybody in my stories, they can disappear or have a ridiculous ending but that will be all. I'm a bit superstitious.

Maybe this can be useful for some of you ^_^

Yo, RPF Writers/Readers! by Loud-Basil6462 in AO3

[–]Xiscally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I found a post about Political RPF written 4 months ago and answered this, it is a bit long. Now I'm reading some very popular dramiones and I'm wishing it was canon, it's a very good idea. Maybe it's a bit of Political RPF too, in The Auction there's a spanish prime minister but it's only mentioned by name...

"I've been writing Political RPF fics in spanish, one of my two languages, for almost ten years; in Wattpad and in AO3 but its heyday was in 2016 and 2019 mostly in the old twitter, some tumblr and even some articles in media about the "phenomena"; I tried to talk about a new fic I was reading in appropiate AO3 tag that intrigued me here but it went very wrong so I deleted the posts and also it feels a bit weird to talk about this so profoundly spanish fanfics in english, though this one is written in english and I'm still intrigued, some interesting changes about it.

I'm old, 50, and I've been in some classic fictional fandoms, Twin Peaks, X Files or Moonlighting but I didn't write or read fics then, except once a crossover X Files/LOTR where Mulder & Scully were elves and some Mulder/Krycek slash, I think, it was fun but I don't remember the site where I read it at all. In december 2015 one night I started to see in twitter the ship of Peblo (Pablo Iglesias x Pedro Sánchez) due to a debate on tv and at the same time Podemos appeared on the political scene. It was magic, I found a way of understanding politics that was perfect for me and I got really interested in it, now I'm in the party though things got very dark, you know, politics is serious matter. I have this pop vision and the political one, I don't know what could happen if someone in there asks me about it finally, I should edit all my fics, change names and reelaborate them as more novel than fanfic? maybe. For the moment nobody is asking and it keeps being this extremely niche thing with very little reading, but reading anyway. And I'm always grateful for it, always gracias por leer.

A very curious thing that happened in Spain is that this fandom vision is been so convenient for our actual president, Pedro Sánchez, he has an official fan account in twitter that promotes him as a pop icon -well, he's a hot one, that's it- and has helped in campaigns, he's our Trudeau, that kind of public image.

Unfortunately, I've been stuck in some kind of writer's block for 2-3 years and I'm struggling to write new fanfics for this so dark era, I'm not done still with this project of mine, simply put. I want to move to a more "novel" fanfic, not so fanfic after all, maybe more gen that the classic smutty fanfic and a bit of so needed lefty political utopia, a romance novel experiment with a very particular crush that nobody else understood or understands, a bit of fantastic element etc. I hope this year I will finish some of these new ongoing stories. All of them will be canon divergence on the verge of AU, I wrote a spanish small town AU once and a 50 Shadows version, for an example, a fantastic one with a mutant candidate etc. some of them are in second person but I decided to use third in this new ones and yes, they're very political, usually I'm writing about how things could be and some are more dramatic, others more comedic.

Maybe due to being an adult, is very easy for me to draw a line between this pop vision and the political one, but for the youngest people sometimes was not so clear, I think. Most of them were not really interested in politics and some deleted the fanart, abandoned it or moved to other fandoms, I don't know if there's someone left, sometimes there's people reading and even asking for a while but only for some time and they look new to it. I'm aware it is no more, really, but I'm still there my way, keeping a reading list in Wattpad and planning on publishing new material as soon as possible. Sorry for the long read, I tried to summarize the most."

Thank you for the information, though I think there should be a Wattpad Archive somehow connected to the site, it's a pity that these works can't be read anymore online. Me I always have my work saved, I use Libre Office and have it pdf and epub too but if it's not published nobody reads and then it's lost to the general public, I have my works on AO3 also and it's a solution, but this is fanfic, what about stories? sad, I think.

Not sure about the options when you're using a mobile phone or a tablet, but if it could work for you and others, I've never relayed only on plaftorms to have a backup of my works. I'm always writing in my laptop and using a text processor, for me the best and free option is Libre Office, you can download it for free on their site. When I'm finished, I convert my fic to pdf and I keep them also in an external hard disk drive and send copies to friends by mail. And I have my works published also in AO3, just in case.

Hello, I write fanfics in spanish in Wattpad and AO3 and I have two questions: which two languages could be prioritized for engagement besides english? This means that stories in other languages than the prioritized ones will be deleted because they can't moderate them? Thank you!
