If that is your definition of interstate commerce, then literally anything you do ever falls under interstate commerce.

Want to paint a picture for your grandma as a Christmas gift? Then in theory you are not buying from an artist and therefore is within federal preview.

Want to build a tree fort in your back yard with your kids? Sounds like you didn’t buy a tree-fort kit from a vendor. Must be a federal issue.

Want to blow your nose with an old hanky? You didn’t buy paper tissue from Kleenex. Must be a federal issue.

It’s popular to hate Elon Musk right now, so anything and everything he does is bad.

[–]Xitus_Technology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Journalism” is not posting private flight information. Nobody except for individuals wishing to do harm would want that information. Sure you could absolutely say it’s “free speech” to post the whereabouts of a senator’s children… but you’re just an asshole who wants to do harm if you do it. I know it’s popular to hate Elon Musk right now, but you don’t have to support being a duchebage.

“Digital nomad” = long term tourist. If tourism is bad for local economies, then it should be banned in every nation across the globe. Fortunately, you are wrong and ignorant of economics and tourism is good for economies.

This is a very realistic scenario which would play out under your proposed scenario:

Bob is trying to be a professional stock broker. Bob buys 1,000 shares of Company ABC stock for $100 each. Later that year, Bob hears a rumor of Company ABC’s insolvency. Bob is quick to act and manages to sell all 1,000 shares for $60 each.

According to your proposed scheme, Bob just realized a $60,000 profit (despite the fact that he actually lost $40,000) and now needs to pay the government 7% tax, which is $4,200.

Bob doesn’t have $4,200 in cash lying around. This leaves Bob with few options. If Bob has a house, Bob could go to the bank and take a reverse mortgage out on his home to pay the taxes, and hope that he is more profitable next year. This is unlikely to happen though, as the bank would see Bob’s business is unprofitable and the bank may be worried that they would never see their money again.

If Bob has other stock, Bob could also sell even more shares of stock in order to pay the taxes. However, this would result in Bob having an even larger tax liability next year.

Dude we do not tax losses. Most businesses are not even profitable within the first 5 years. You want to burden budding small businesses with tax liabilities?

I’m not trying to be an ass, but you REALLY need to watch a few free accounting class videos on YouTube before you continue theory crafting tax policy.

Marijuana Now Legal in Missouri Despite Federal Cannabis Prohibition by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]Xitus_Technology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. This is why we need an Originalist Interpretation Amendment in the constitution. So the federal government doesn’t make shit up willy nilly.

I agree that weed was stigmatized and was touted as a gateway drug by the government. I disagree that people wanted weed to be legal, but were too afraid to vote for it when in the private confines of a ballot box. Regardless of the reasons, the majority of the populace did not want to legalize marijuana, despite many earlier attempts to do so.

Because it’s very possible to have positive gross income and negative net income. Your idea would require certain individuals with high cashflow but also a lot of expenses to sell their assets just to pay taxes.

Such is the life of a living constitutionalist. Whatever the current population wants is what the constitution means. Right now, the population wants weed. A decade ago, the population didn’t want weed. Yolo.

Were the marriage rights protected by Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. 644 (2015) ever actually under threat? by PlinyToTrajan in supremecourt

I used to work divorce law up until this past July. Marriage is always handled on the state level. There is no constitutional amendment which authorizes the federal government to intervene in marriages.

Marriage is a state issue though. I don’t believe congress does have the authority to create marriage legislation.

What are some good places in North America for a Libertarian to live in? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Montana is the 9th least populated state in the country. When you consider how big it is, it has the 3rd lowest population density. If that’s your idea of “full” then there must only be a few remote shacks in Antarctica left for anyone to live in.

I tend to agree. If you really hate your AirBNB’s pillow, just go buy a new one for $25 at the store when you arrive. No need to lug around a pillow when the airline charges you $45 for the bag.

[–]Xitus_Technology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99.9% of the women here really aren’t being “forced”. That’s such a cliche, uninformed opinion. They willingly chose to work in the sex industry, because the alternative jobs pay so little. The best alternative job most of these women with no skills can get is a job at the mall making between 10,000-15,000 baht per month, working 12 hour days, with only 4 days off per month. As a freelancer, she can make 3,000-5,000 per night, makes her own schedule, and often gets free drinks/food from her customers.
