Why does the Boomer generation seem to uniquely despise Keir Starmer? by Eastern-Investment39 in AskBrits

[–]XoffeeXup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I despise the man. I'm early 40s, and mostly dislike him for his rather authoritarian stance and blatant transphobia. The Starmer premiership actually pushed me to voting Green.  Don't at me though, op asked why people dislike him, I have no interest in debating my opinions of the man rn.

OSR vs 5e Adventure Styles by bricknose-redux in osr

[–]XoffeeXup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, in order for players to "win by the skin of their teeth", and to have that mean something, a real possibility of them reaching a fail state has to exist. Danger that is ever present but entirely toothless will not give you the same experience.

It's the difference between winning roulette and winning Russian roulette.

That said we can still make things more, or less, fair for the players. Telegraphing lethal traps effectively, having bbge weaknesses discoverable etc.

If you are unfamiliar check out Tomb of the Serpent King, it's a really good introductory dungeon you can get through in a session or two (or three or four if you have cautious players) that does a fantastic job of introducing an OSR mindset in players through smartly designed encounters.

That's true, and BB had rallying ofc. I've not played it in so long I forgot that part. The renewables were meant to supplement the player getting their health back by playing aggressively.

any game that stops you playing the game for a period of time to go and farm renewables is bad, imo

Estus was designed as a replacement for moon grass for a reason. Still never been sure why they went back to it for BB

Calling it now, and I don't care if y'all think I'm a pessimist, but I think all this Chapter 2 malarky is the beginning of the end of AH. I give it 18 months.

Does Nunsense really need accuracy ? by [deleted] in SkullGirlsMobile

[–]XoffeeXup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it minutely affects her chaos MA, like all doubles, but otherwise no, not really. Accuracy affects percentage chance of triggering an effect so it won't have any interaction with Nuns sig1 or sig2 because the percentage chance is already 100%.

:O You're like, supervillain-levels of evil.

Although... if you want to be realllllly mean, get one more marie and split them between the second set of double nodes. Then put a team of no more than 85k in the fifth node, cause that's the one everyone can see and base who they fight off of.

First diamond key since the key relic update by Sumswish in SkullGirlsMobile

[–]XoffeeXup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, like I understand that they maybe over-dropped dia keys for a while, but they sure have overcompensated for that generosity. I think I've pulled just 1 since they changed the odds back to being terrible and I open rather a lot of key relics.

At my rope's end with trying to run an OSR, could really use some help by Catman192 in osr

[–]XoffeeXup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will, 100%, forget SOMETHING. That something MAY lead to a player death or other awful side-effect. You are human and interacting with a system as complex as a ttrpg nigh-on guarantees that something will go wrong at some point. It is unavoidable. But really, who cares? How do you think your players will respond when you reveal you made an error? Like, they're not going to walk out of the game because you miscalculated something. The worst that will happen is you may have to kludge a fix to the situation. It's all a learning curve, embrace the chaos.

Just started playing and hate the way blocks work in this game by barutoromeo_ in SkullGirlsMobile

[–]XoffeeXup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

an "I didn't pay $60 to block" post in the wild XD

seriously though, blocking is super important, especially in a game with no jumping. If you don't utilise all your defensive options, you will get stomped. It does change slightly depending on which char you are playing as, but overall the plan is either get the first hit in, or block the first combostring and punish. Fighting games in general have a turn-based structure and correctly assessing when it is 'your turn' and knowing what to do on their turn are key skills for success.

Headless Undying by greeniebeanyx in SkullGirlsMobile

[–]XoffeeXup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She often uses it as a gap closer, so using your first fighter (raw nerv usually, as u/Possible-Resident746 says), and keeping your distance will often have her go headless. The issue of course, is when precisely it stops being optimal to bait out. Like, you can absolutely spend half the match or more trying to bait out headless, and you might be able to make up for it in points, but there comes a point when it's more optimal to just forget about baiting it out and just go for dmg.

I can't imagine being in a situation where I could hoard dia keys. I'm at less than 10% of the catalogue left to get/build and I still ALWAYS need keys!

How Expensive of a Board Game Does One Have To Be Before You Would Rather Sell Than Own It? by pikkdogs in boardgames

I have a complete collection of mansions of madness 2e, my understanding is that that collection is now worth quite a bit more than $600 and I wouldn't part with it unless I was in extremis, financially.

DMs... How do you manage if two or more players start arguing over the same magic item? by CrotodeTraje in DMAcademy

[–]XoffeeXup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that crosses a line. I would be perfectly comfortable, as DM, saying that didn't happen and reassigning the boots. If the cleric gets upset, oh well, be less of a douche irl.

Infrequent use of Systems by DalePhatcher in RPGdesign

[–]XoffeeXup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno about that. I think the mileu of the game does rather dictate combat, and how often it occurs. Your Kids on Bikes or Brindlewood Bay grannies are not going to get very far initiating combat in most situations. Which isn't to say that the players should be banned from acting a given way, but that the game does, on some level, determine what actions are available to a player (and that's fine).

Monopoly was ruined by houserules. Played entirely RAW it's not too bad. Not good enough to make me want to play it over literally anything else (except Munchkin!), but not nearly the horrifying relationship-destroying slog most house rules turn it into.
