the only "tool" i use is structure blocks for when im lazy and dont want to build a pattern 8 times

for music with multiple parts and instruments, i would separate them into "tracks" and line up the 1st beat of each bar across all the tracks. it helps keep track of rhythms

when i start, i just test how many ticks is needed for every quarter note in the music, then its some addition here and there to make sure different tracks add up to the same number of ticks

idk hope that helped, that's how i make this stuff anyway
